This is weird especially because iOS uses file based encryption, and when resetting the device the key is thrown away. So even if the files were still there, they would not be readable. I think they didn’t reset the device properly and instead deleted the apps manually is likely why this happened
Unless Linux is the default, it will never become significant in the mainstream. It is however thanks to improvements like these that OEMs can consider selling it pre-installed
Also I would to remind some here that the reason Linux can exist on the desktop today is because it is a very good way for Microsoft to get less antitrust fines. Otherwise the bootloaders would all be locked and there would be one or two devices that are unlocked.
This is also my main concern about the Qualcomm elite x: everybody is saying “hurray it will support Linux” but the actual cpu support was never really the issue. It’s the boot process and device trees that is problematic and I don’t see this being talked about enough. If it does not adhere to a standard device detection process like with Acpi via Arm System Ready we are cooked for arm laptops.
For the same reasons people don’t change their engines in their cars unless it’s needed. For the same reason people don’t install custom ROMs anymore. For the same reasons most people buy consoles instead of making their own computers.
I just saw this on phoronix, it’s pretty vague, but it’s what goals are, a destination you want to reach. What’s important is that they have goals in mind and that they develop a clear plan to achieve them
Also, note to self: to preserve mental sanity, never check the comments on phoronix when the article mentions GNOME, Wayland, Flatpak or SystemD.

This, running locally (which should be feasible in 2-3 years) would be so cool. I would really dig this on my Fedora computer, I think this is a genuinely good idea and a rare good use case of AI and object detection.
Edit: it seems it is actually running locally thanks to the Snapdragon X Elite’s AI accelerator. Pretty cool stuff though I am sure Microsoft still found a way to make this another intrusion to the users privacy.
So that they can say they have a better screen on the marketing, because they know damn well the actual UX will be inferior, so they need a selling point
I want to go back in time to when I didn’t know it so bad, the first half is slow, but when it starts oh does it get GOOD. Everything is so good in this game, even if I was spoiled the ending, it didn’t even affect what the ending made me feel. >!Like I’m really not the type to cry in front of movies and stuff, but after a 50 hours adventure, i actually felt sad.!<
I’m pretty sure landlines are mostly VoIP now, at least in Canada. Every home phone plan I could find (with picurest of old people of course lol) were VoIP based, which also allows small competitors here to at least have some phone options, because the big companies don’t have to sell bulk prices of their cellular towers to smaller competitors.
Love the project, but I would really like if they stopped looking like a bootleg iOS. Stock android is fine, especially after Material 3. Also the name is annoying to type in an URL bar.
Got to agree with the conclusion of the review, while this seems like a decent offering (and I personally like the “retro” look), for Є400, you might as well get a A55 with a much better screen and probably longer security support (Android OS updates aren’t that important these days).
Ok, as much as I do not like the esthetics of the new cosmic DE, this is really cool, and it looks like a very good middle ground between Plasma’s over complexity and GNOME’s over simplicity!
I got a 128GB dual connector usb-c/usb-a drive, and installed ventoy on it. I have my normal files and for my ISOs I simply put them in the ventoy folder. It works really well.
Oh wow, kind of like apple puts an M chip in iPads now, maybe a throttled version of a Snapdragon X chip could be used to make a phone. Didn’t think of that but that would be very cool
How is proton being dishonest here? I’d like to read your point. They never pitched themselves as a way to protect yourself from the law, they always clearly said they are a confidential email provider, meaning they don’t know what you are sending and receiving. It works like a doctor meeting, the information is very confidential, but not anonymous, it is tied to you even though nobody except authorized parties should be able to access this info.
