Beside what @pootriarch wrote, maptiler and other map providers started to display osm with overture maps.
Overture maps is started by corporations to present their gibberish data to their shareholders. It’s mostly AI generated building footprints with varying quality and location of pages and businesses from facebook.
The corporate sponsors of osm couldn’t add this data to osm, because it’s against our rules. The license of overture maps is compatible with osm, so you copy from there freely, you can use it as a source, and it’s legal for providers like maptiler to mix them.
The problem with overture is it’s quality is not checked, while it’s datarich, you can’t be sure if it’s true at all. Looks nice, but not more usable.
There were other similar initiatives where everything is encrypted, so you cannot be sure what others store on your node. For torrent you can select what torrent you download and share.
I was thinking about Storj, where you get “money” for hosting other people’s content in a similar p2p fashion. For Storj the answer to the first 2 questions are money, but you can’t answer the third, because encryption. (“Money” is not real money but some strange crypto, but that’s not important now.)
CSAM is just the worst possible example, it’s forbidden in most countries of the world, and no sane people should be ok storing it. The main thing is, if you host other people’s content, can you know what is the content, do you have some word if you want to host it or not.
DHT returns an ip based on a hash, what do you mean.
If you solely rely on DHT for searching for new things to download, than yes, that’s a good way to get unwanted material on your hard disk, I don’t recommend to do that to anybody at the curtent state of the technology. Don’t mix up things deliberately, usually people don’t do that, they get a torrent file or magnet link from a trusted source, than DHT can’t mess it up.
What exactly is a KYC selfie? Is it a photo of an ID card? I figured out WUI is WebUI. The author uses some strange acronyms I never heard before.
It’s very American that they can steal your identity with just one photo. My European state issued ID has data on both sides, so if someone would take a photo of it won’t be enough for anything. Also if you loose it you just get a new one and noone can use the old one for anything.
This is the main reason wikidata linking in osm is getting more common than wikipedia. Wikidata and osm don’t have this requirement. Name Suggestion Index stopped using wikipedia tags and it only uses wikidata tags nowadays.
Yes, just like how an encyclopedia was edited before the internet, common people didn’t had an article there, just notable ones.
The same way you don’t add historical data to osm, because we decided that we don’t want to collect that data here. But you can add that to openhistoricalmap. There are different projects for different things.
I don’t know I don’t edit wikipedia regularly, I only fix small things if find something wrong or outdated. I just replied that your definition of wikipedia is not the same as wikipedians think, it wasn’t specifically about this situation. I haven’t said I agree with this definition neither.
I just read more about this project and notability wasn’t their problem but citation and referencing third party sources and maps correctly:
The seller didn’t said they pay for their electricity. If they live in a dorm, or charge the phones in their workplace or school, there are lot of illegal ways to get free electricity. It’s easier to conceal a regular phone than an antminer
Saarnio himself built the first product mock ups, after spending the last 1.5 years learning to program — upskilling from his former finance-focused background to close in on the AI opportunity.
It’s so hard to find programmers nowadays that this entrepreneur had to learn to program to create this raspberypi in a box.
He is coming from a finance background, so the math and logic part of programming should have been easy for him. I guess he was also familiar with Excel formulas, from there to learn python is not an unbelievably big step, 1.5 years should be enough.
On the photo you can see the phone connects to a webpage(172.28.172.2:3000), which I guess running on the black box, so it’s just a website actually. There are literally tutorials on the internet to create something similar, first result: digitalocean.com/…/how-to-create-an-intelligent-c…
The article also mentions 40 people working for Jolla, I just don’t understand that line, why the manager had to learn to program, if he had 40 programmers to do this?
Actually their Sailfish os is not bad, it’s based on Linux, originally developed by Intel and Nokia, and they have a proprietary Android compatibility tool which can run Android apps very well on their phone. There was an article about this tool recently, compared to waydroid by a Gnome developer: blogs.gnome.org/…/a-dive-into-jolla-appsupport/
Maybe all the programmer had better things to do, everyone could see that this current AI hype will just disappear in some years, and they just wanted to show something on MWC, and only the boss had time to dive into this bullshit.
There are some mobos, most of them are from prebuilt desktops.
I found only one “gamer”: Gigabyte GA-G41M-ES2L from 2009, Socket 775, supports Core2Extreme, that was a beast 15 years ago.
But any other mobo can be used as a gaming mobo, usually they have standard ports and and newer ones tend to follow standard ATX sizes. Front IO ports usually use different configuration, but you can still use it in a case, possible that only the onoff button will work, no leds and reset, that’s good enough
I bought 5 of these less than two years ago, though they were the 500 GB model. Every single one of them has failed - some within 45 days and just outside the return period. The last one, which I honestly forgot was still running and thought I’d replaced, failed this morning....
