Is it unethical to troll arrogant people?

I’ve been on a mini quest to try and get my Twitter account banned without doing anything strictly against the ToS and my first idea was to start messing with people who say something completely untrue, then refuse to back down under any circumstances. But that got me thinking, is it okay? I’m not outright insulting/cyber...

irkli,

When is being mean to anyone a good idea? Is that the kind of person you want to be?

Getting b& from melons shit site, bravo.

Cory Doctorow, the author of the article and coiner of the word, writes voluminously at his blog, pluralistic

Big oil quietly walks back on climate pledges as global heat records tumble (www.theguardian.com)

Leading energy companies are intent on pushing the world in the opposite direction, expanding fossil fuel production and insisting that there is no alternative. It is evidence that they are motivated not by record warming, but by record profits, experts say.

irkli,

Well sure! Green marketing is expensive! We have oil products to sell. Green costs. Easy decision.

irkli,

What does make sense of systems prior to the modern metric system is that they were based on needs and abilities of centuries past, which – surprise! – have changed.

What does NOT make sense is not so much inertia in making change, but people who get all butthurt and complainy when suggested they change practices, like many nitwits in the US. Hell the British did it, we can.

Some of the measures of volume and length make reasonable sense – though the names are funny many are half or double of others, or times 4, or multiples of 2 or 4.

When most people never ventured more than 20 miles from where they were born only traders had to worry about shit like that.

England and the US, prob others I just don’t know, had * local time *, I mean at the town to town level. How would they know they’re different? Few people had portable clocks. That ended with train systems. In the 1840s I think.

I was on a car forum where members complained that the metric system caused the space shuttle explosion, and why can’t we have mercurochrome and hitting children in schools back. Luckily they’re all dying off now.

irkli,

Reporting you for implying that I am willing to tolerate reading long words. Stop scaring me!

/S cuz I’ve had dumber posts of mine taken seriously.

irkli,

Punctuation is for snobs! I hate you! With lurv of course.

irkli,

“Manhood” and masculinity are stupid ideologies.

irkli,

No, they are used to balance wheels and tires that are out of balance.

When a new tire is mounted on a wheel, it has to be balanced on a machine that spins it, locates the light side, operator adds weights to make it balance.

irkli,

I left Facebook when any post containing a reference to guillotine got you jail time.

A week later I was like wtf! was I don’t there?!

irkli,

JUST TURN THE A/C TO 70F. OIL’S CHEAP.

The sad thing is this is essentially the proposed solution.

irkli,

You forgot the fortnight compensation on Tuesdays.

Firing people! Yes! Authorityizing always fixes things or makes you look powerful! Power!

irkli,

But these things are NOT intelligence. Language is not intelligence. These are predictive language models.

Language is compelling but intelligence doesn’t require it.

irkli,

Right. I wonder, now, if he had any idea what he was doing. Not to argue with you. His fuckups are just so weird here. If he wanted it “off” he could have been a lot more effective. He just looks like a fool and not one decision looks intentional. It is interesting though. A very slow motion car crash… I assume the bridge abutment or cliff is in front of him somewhere.

irkli,

The world, especially US china EU, has such vertically entangled petro consumption, infrastructure, and maybe worst of all as far as making changes go, growth corporations feeding off it/us, well probably have rapid, vs slower and assimilable, collapse.

Hell today’s “homeless problem” will be a trivial joke relative to millions of people fleeing situations literally in-tolerable for countless reasons, probably soon enough – if this took place over 25 years it would be painful enough. If we get rapid migrations it’ll be war.

irkli,

Totally correct. We live now, act now. The future remains not determined, but damn right paths and options are rapidly closing.

Probably something like an inhabitable band will form over continents; the US southwest and south gulf, for instance.

All humans won’t die. That’s silly. But very many can, and the rest, degraded.

irkli,

No. That’s simplistic and wrong. Huge swaths of the planet will remain nicely habitable. But large swaths won’t, and disease increase and economic failures will make things very terrible.

But this “all gonna die” stuff is dumb and wrong. Sorry.

irkli, (edited )

Oh I realize that. They’re not without engineering virtue or history ! (Wasted on most owners of them…)

But they’re also snobby status symbols and toys for the rich. And “fast car” is so 1970s… Expensive toys for the rich are an open target for ridicule for me, lol. YMMV!

irkli,

Oh one of those online car snobs. Boring. Mister know it all, check out

24hoursoflemons.com

They/we LOVE to ridicule car snobs.

It is properly spelled LeMons. To make fun of you’re revered other-spelling.

Come on, sense of humor?

irkli,

Lol of course not! A fkn shitbox 100k mile 15cyr old civic out handles on stock trim pretty much every decked out 60s streetsble car. More HP/cu in. Etc.

You’re ANOTHER one of those binary car guys (always guys, same as he car boomers, waxing fkn poetic about past 10 mpg glory).

It’s not a binary choice. Chill.

irkli,

Sorry, 24 hours of lemons and the source of the LeMons puns, is a bunch of car folk truly interested in cars we can actually drive, race, rally, wrench. And make fun of themselves as much as the snobby stuff.

Everything kinda looks like a joke but 24 hour endurance racing is hard!

The Rally (different from the races) and both fun and hard. Easy or as hard as you like.

I’ve done both. Great people too. Not a box of dicks either, more women there then most any car shit I’ve done. Queer friendly as car stuff gets too.

At the track crews are often mutually supportive. Yeah it’s great.

Cars are democratic -+ we can all own one. There’s amazing engineering in high end cars. Duh. Lovely to look at. Get arrested when you swipe parts from! Lol jk.

But making a 5 or 25 year old car do well on a track is loads of fun!

irkli,

…and the nitwits who buy them ought to know how to drive them, no?

I don’t get it – why are so many here sooo defensive about a rich toy thing you’ll never own? And if you do own one, so what? Sheesh it’s just metal, not your identity.

irkli,

We’re cool. And in agreement.

Are there really so few car enthusiasts on this site? This sub seems to have such little traffic. What gives?

Coming from Reddit, there were multiple car-related subs and they all saw some fairly heavy traffic with lots of posts and comments. Heck, even some of the model-specific ones seem to get more interaction than this sub does. What’s the deal?

irkli,

Thank you. (and by that phrase I mean responsible for dealing with the mess we have now; and specifically not guilty for creating it im the first place. And because were talking about only slogans, handwaving how racism unfolds today.)
