Matt Gaetz is moving there immediately!

GDPR is a specific new thing less than 10 years old and has no equivalent in US law.

That’s not entirely true. California has a GDPR-like privacy law now:

“The requirements aren’t insignificant, and the fines could add up”

“This bill would enact the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018. Beginning January 1, 2020, the bill would grant a consumer a right to request a business to disclose the categories and specific pieces of personal information that it collects about the consumer, the categories of sources from which that information is collected, the business purposes for collecting or selling the information, and the categories of 3rd parties with which the information is shared. The bill would require a business to make disclosures about the information and the purposes for which it is used. The bill would grant a consumer the right to request deletion of personal information and would require the business to delete upon receipt of a verified request, as specified. The bill would grant a consumer a right to request that a business that sells the consumer’s personal information, or discloses it for a business purpose, disclose the categories of information that it collects and categories of information and the identity of 3rd parties to which the information was sold or disclosed. The bill would require a business to provide this information in response to a verifiable consumer request. The bill would authorize a consumer to opt out of the sale of personal information by a business and would prohibit the business from discriminating against the consumer for exercising this right, including by charging the consumer who opts out a different price or providing the consumer a different quality of goods or services, except if the difference is reasonably related to value provided by the consumer’s data. The bill would authorize businesses to offer financial incentives for collection of personal information. The bill would prohibit a business from selling the personal information of a consumer under 16 years of age, unless affirmatively authorized, as specified, to be referred to as the right to opt in. The bill would prescribe requirements for receiving, processing, and satisfying these requests from consumers. The bill would prescribe various definitions for its purposes and would define “personal information” with reference to a broad list of characteristics and behaviors, personal and commercial, as well as inferences drawn from this information. The bill would prohibit the provisions described above from restricting the ability of the business to comply with federal, state, or local laws, among other things.”

irreticent,

That is just patently false. There are plenty of women fighting in warzones.

As someone who is aging. Late thirties. How can I keep my finger on the pulse of current trends, particularly in music?

As an example. I grew up in hip-hop but at a certain point I stopped listening to new people and realised recently that I’d slept on some bangers. Like Kendrick particularly, but even people like Juice WRLD and Xxxtentacion....

r/The_Donald helped radicalize users into far-right identities and discourse – Active users on r/The_Donald increasingly used white nationalist vocabularies in their comments within three months. (journals.sagepub.com)

I know most people that were on reddit at the time are fully aware of this and won’t be surprised but don’t dismiss the findings out of hand. It’s important that studies are being conducted and the fact that the finding match our lived experience is still noteworthy.

Blasphemy!

irreticent,

Fellas, fellas… I think we can all agree that you’re both just terrible.

irreticent,

I just wonder if they smell like tuna or if they smell like crabs.

irreticent,

You’re welcome!

irreticent,

He’s probably being downvoted because his argument seems too similar to the flawed argument that women should have their clothing choices restricted because some men can’t control themselves. It seems like a form of victim blaming/punishing.

irreticent,

I’m sorry for your loss.

irreticent,

I know the feeling. It’s been a few years for me too and I still miss him so much. It’s difficult when I see a cat that looks like him.

Are we (linux) ready for Arm devices?

Are we (linux) ready for arm devices like snapdragon elite X? Asahi runs on mac os with arm chips and the software somehow runs better than macos itself?! Is the softwares packaged for arm linux different? Is there much softwares available for the arm platform like softwares available for the intel/amd chipsets?...

irreticent,

I have a couple RPis and there is plenty of software that runs on them.

irreticent,

I’ve heard that she is actually Dog the Bounty Hunter in drag. I mean, it is possible… has anyone seen the two of them in the same place at the same time. And the resemblance is uncanny!

'Your Name' Movie Producer Confesses To Have Paid Over 20 Underage Girls For Sexual Favors - Animehunch (animehunch.com)

The Wakayama Prefectural Police revealed on May 8, 2024 that Your Name. movie producer Koichiro Itou has been referred to prosecutors for additional violation of Child Prostitution & Pornography law in Japan, after it came to light that he had paid an underage girl for sexual intercourse....

irreticent,

Possibly, but you can’t discount the fact that incels like that actually exist. That’s what’s really fucked.

irreticent,
irreticent,

What does Google’s cloud service have to do with what we’re discussing (Google indexing content vs. SO OpenAI doing it)? They’re not even similar services.

Edit: SO -> OpenAI

irreticent,

It’s because their stated motivations are different than their actual motivations.

irreticent,

Actually, no, it’s not. It’s not illegal to pay someone to keep quiet. It is illegal to use campaign funds and lie about where that money is going. That’s what this trial is about.

irreticent,

While that is true, it is also a whataboutism. What does your comment have to do with the conversation? What did it contribute to the conversation?

irreticent,

Well, you do care enough to feel the need to let everyone know your opinion on the subject.

irreticent,

Facebook is bad for other reasons. But psysops are not one of them.

You’ve obviously never heard of the Cambridge Analytica scandal. That meddled in our presidential election on behalf of a hostile foreign nation.

There are also plenty of other examples of Facebook running psyop campaigns themselves on their own users. Your claim is demonstrably false.

irreticent,

crickets chirping
