Hello there...every day that I use Mastodon, I like to list three things that I like as a contribution towards a positive online space, as well as my own headspace. If you did this today, what would feature on your list?
01. I've had a migraine for the last two days (can't see out my left eye etc), so paracetamol and ibuprofen
02. Spiny dogfish
03. Sue Galloway #ReasonsToBeCheerful#3goodthings@3goodthings
@IanThistlethwaite Thank you for checking up on me and caring, I really appreciate that 💚 I'm doing okay, the holidays weren't very overwhelming this year. And how are you doing? xo
@purplepadma Thank you for the gentleness! 💚 Also: always feel free to nudge me :)
Autistic burnout is kicking my ass a bit, but I do have some ideas and solutions for you - I'll polish it up a bit and send you in the next few days. Will that be okay? And how are you doing? 💚
@IanThistlethwaite Hi Ian! Thank you for checking up on me! Neurodivergent burnout hit me pretty hard, but your 3 good things always brighten my day when I see them :) Hope you're doing well 💚
Today's impostor thoughts: "maybe I am doing it for meds, or attention, something like that"
Yesterday morning's #adhdMoment: Spilling my meds all over the floor because I couldn't get the patience / motor control right and split the pill, and then while picking it all up, forgetting the cupboard where the meds go was open when I stood up full force, whacking myself right in the temple
@loops
Me: I'm definitely faking it...
Also me [at the same day]: sticking a thermal blanket to the window because it's too bright and it's impossible to function
😉
Hope today's thoughts won't be too overwhelming for you 💚
Does anyone with #ADHD, #Dyslexia or #Dyscalculia have advice on how to learn a second language? I seem to have issues with auditory understanding. For example, in Duolingo I'm great at learning the language, but as soon as you remove the app, I can't understand anything because I don't see the text. Is this normal? #neurodiverse#neurodivergent
@aproposnix Disclaimer: I do not have dyscalculia or dyslexia. My flavor of neurospicy likes learning languages, but/so maybe my experience will be helpful.
There is a method in which you just listen to a new language (starting with the simplest things), it probably suits what you are saying. They call it "Comprehensible Input" - it's described here: https://www.dreamingspanish.com/. The website is for learning Spanish, but the description of the method is in English. 1/2
@aproposnix I learned English by watching British/American TV series with subtitles - first Polish subtitles, then English ones. It was an effective and easy method for my brain at the time (and before I knew I had AuDHD).
Can you tell us what your second language is? Maybe we will have some helpful materials for you :)

@aproposnix Yeah, German should be easier than Czech, it is more similar to English, so there are fewer obstacles to jump through.
Someone recently recommended a website https://sprachy.com/ for learning German; I haven't checked it thoroughly yet, but maybe it will be useful?

@aproposnix I don't know if it's comforting, but "total immersion" doesn't work for me at all, not if I don't know the language well enough to feel confident. I lived in Spain for a few months, and I learned nothing because I was in panic mode all the time ;) 2/2
@aproposnix I'm so sorry you had this experience. No wonder learning a language was hard in these circumstances - the brain doesn't learn when it's focusing on survival (I'm sure there's research on this; this is not an ND-specific thing, but we are more often in survival mode). I hope you will enjoy learning German now when the situation is different. Sending hugs (if allowed) 💚
Does anyone have suggestions for alternative #SearchEngines that actually have good, meaningful results?? That's going to mean no deeply flawed AI, no SEO gaming the system, just useful results.
This isn't about privacy or a lack of privacy. I'm just really getting sick of not finding what I'm actually looking for.
On my way to see the body. With a discreet emotional support in the bag.
(also need to buy a black bag for funerals, I only have a small black one, apt for theatre etc.)
TL;DR I didn't do my taxes for two years as they didn't send a reminder 😔
When I don't get them, I know I should be doing something, just don't know what...
I didn't get any reminders for my taxes the last two years. So of course I didn't do them....
I think I need to do them within 5 years though. So I'll gather all info and when dad goes to do his taxes, I'll ask if me and my carriage of paperwork may tag along. Hopefully "his tax man" is also able to do all of mine then. So remember Pixy, you need to log in to a sites and start making prints of all needed info.
Gather and take along in April to get it sorted before it's too late.
I know I can do this. I have 5 months to get it all together. Go Pixy! 😁
