New version of Fritter today, <https://pypi.org/project/fritter/0.0.7/>, my library for interacting with the passage of time in a generalized way, for both civil and physical times (i.e.: datetimes and epoch-second timestamps).

This software is proudly ZeroVer <https://0ver.org> right now, as I am rapidly evolving its interfaces and documentation without a compatibility policy yet, trying to make sure I'm comfortable committing to it. But as of today it has 100% test coverage.

jaafar,

@glyph this would make a great talk

i like it when i hit ^C in Python and it dies in with an assertion failure in pthread_mutex_destroy

jaafar,

@whitequark can you do async with it now? I was going to switch from C but that was a dealbreaker

Ah yes. My annual tradition of reminding myself that getting a hotel half way across Pasadena and two Lyft rides is worth saving $150/night on a hotel room.

jaafar,

@kwf too far from the Gold Line?

It is perfectly normal when looking to get solar installed on your house to just go get the OEM certification for installing them, right?

I'm not installing them myself, but I just wanted to know how.

jaafar,

@kwf honestly I've dreamed of doing this kind of thing. Power move.

Over the years, I've slowly been collecting ethernet optics in gallon ziplock bags.

Finally sorted them all out into a set of drawers. Now I just need to label them.

jaafar,

@kwf and what will you do with your sorted and labeled parts?

One very irritating thing about American foodies is when they say ‘but this place is run by Chinese people, how can it be Japanese / Korean / Chinese / Vietnamese / Thai’ (when all of these nationalities have significant and intersectional people of Chinese origins). Like, the great Thai restaurant and the good Vietnamese noodle shop on my block is run by Thai-Teochew people and Vietnamese-Teochew people.

It’s not great to have one’s cultural identity being guessed at by random foodies.

jaafar,

@skinnylatte and Chinese Jamaicans!

jaafar,

@skinnylatte I have enjoyed Byron Lee and the Dragonaires and that's basically how I know of this group

One thing that I was surprised, but only a little bit surprised, to learn upon beginning to get involved with FPGA dev for gaming is that the most popular high-level language by far is TCL. They target Verilog or another HDL and use TCL as a preprocessor. I have an enormous amount of respect for TCL from a language design perspective. I don't… think I want to learn TCL, honestly. Currently practicing in my head the most polite way to express I don't want to write in TCL

jaafar,

@mcc Ousterhout was incredibly influential on 80s/90s EDA thanks to Magic

  • jaafar,

@lcamtuf It was not always like this. Far more fringe/DIY in the early days. All you needed was decent camping gear and resourcefulness. With success came a kind of gentrification.
