Does anyone know of a plugin that will auto-import Mastodon toots to WordPress and let me choose a post type and category/term to import them into?

I'm looking to import my Mastodon post history at first, then update periodically with anything new.

I've tried this, https://github.com/janboddez/import-from-mastodon but it only seems to do the first toot.
Also tried https://wordpress.org/plugins/tootpress/ but it adds it to a page only, oddly.

All RSS feed importers I've tried have filled my WP Admin with errors and warnings.

I keep getting TrackBack spam in .
But, what's weird, is that the domains don't exist!

This is a typical one. A nonsensical and non-existent domain - R9NpK.com

I can't understand how these are submitted, nor what their goal is.

@Edent Do you have XMLRPC enabled? Or an end point, like the WP REST API available?

Curious to know what you all think:

Does the indie web re-open the doors for techniques that are less used these days, such as left hand nav, iframe/table layouts, etc?

I know you can build whatever you want but there are also requirements around accessibility, performance, etc. that never used to be a factor.

jackmcconnell,
@jackmcconnell@mstdn.social avatar

@ross There are laws in place that require a level of accessibility. These didn’t exist in the 90s which seems to be a big influence in the indie web scene.

So @ivory NEVER, and has never, synced across devices for me. If I look at my recent notifications (bell icon) on my Mac, the dot underneath goes away. Open my phone sometime later, dot is still there even though I haven't gotten any more notifications.

jackmcconnell,
@jackmcconnell@mstdn.social avatar

@ivory I am and they’re all green - no obvious issues

jackmcconnell,
@jackmcconnell@mstdn.social avatar

@ivory yup, tested every which way. It never syncs. I always, always have to clear a dot/bubble and scroll my timeline to catch up. It never syncs. Same I cloud. No obvious issues and no issues with other apps which sync via iCloud.

jackmcconnell,
@jackmcconnell@mstdn.social avatar

@ivory Thanks. Syncing my scroll position seems to work but the dot next to the Mentions and Notifications doesn’t reflect each device - if I've viewed them on iOS, when I open the Mac app, there's still a dot.

jackmcconnell,
@jackmcconnell@mstdn.social avatar

@ivory Yes, as far as I know although, this has never worked.

@ivory Anything else I can try? Happy to provide logs or troubleshoot this with you.

I'm slowly building a personal website.
I've managed to find and import some old blogs that I had from 2008/2009 and my goodness is it a mess of poor and cringy writing. Question is, do I keep it public, or do I archive it to private?
I know that cringy things are usually a sign that we've grown as people but…

Also imported all my Tweets and am looking to do the same for my Toots.

@jackmcconnell@mstdn.social avatar

@alexstandiford I’m sure I’ve asked before, but can’t find it, how do you get your Mastodon toots as posts on your site? I’d like to do the same for mine.

jackmcconnell,
@jackmcconnell@mstdn.social avatar

@ross I think that might be it! Thanks!

@Edent do you have a write-up of how you combined native and mastodon comments on your site using the activity pub plugin? I want to do something similar on mine.

Does anyone know if the scroll wheel on a mouse was made popular by long webpages, or was it around long before that for documents too?

Edent, (edited ) to wordpress
@Edent@mastodon.social avatar

I do generally like - but it appears to have started filling my blog with stuff.

Just loads of unnecessary translation cruft in JavaScript. This isn't something I enabled. There's no obvious way to turn it off.

I'm trying not be be all "old man shouts at clouds" - but isn't even attempting to be a lightweight and publisher friendly tool right now.

[Edit: It is some other Automattic plugin. Not JetPack.]

jackmcconnell,
@jackmcconnell@mstdn.social avatar

@Edent that’s all WordPress translations stuff. Do those show if youre not logged in? I know is one my plugins requires some block editor stuff just for Ajax to work so might be a plugin requiring it somewhere?

jackmcconnell,
@jackmcconnell@mstdn.social avatar

@Edent Also looks like you're loading a bunch of scripts on every page, albeit combined and minified, such as Highlight.js. I'd recommend inlining it, only on pages where a codeblock or shortcode appears, if you can. Appreciate this deviates from your original issue but spotted it and felt it might be helpful.

Has anyone in the community written a Tado replacement set of cards/automations/calendars/thing? I find Tado’s own app too limiting these days (not intelligent enough) and would like to stop paying their yearly fee when it renews for me in October.

Using @alexstandiford fork of @shawnhooper Archive Twitter to WP plugin. Just imported 23k tweets and looking through stuff from 2009 is fascinating, if quite cringey. Going to wrangle it to use a different post type and use post formats to better format them.

After importing over a decade of tweets into my site, I had several improvements to offer to the import utility I used. I compiled my changes to the code, and submitted it as a pull request, detailing what I needed, and why.

(thanks again, @shawnhooper)

@alexstandiford does this include Ross’s changes to multi-image tweets/threads? Was looking at doing this myself.

people - is there something I can buy that allows me to monitor the power usage of each circuit inside my home consumer unit and send that data to Home Assistant? I plan to save it long-term using InfluxDB and present it in Grafana. I'm in the UK, England specifically.
