Wow, what a great adventure! If you haven’t heard of it, it’s about an English sea captain who gets marooned in Japan around 1600, and has to adapt to Japanese culture. Lots of politicking, romance, and decapitation. Very loosely based on real people too....
Thank you for posting this! I haven’t read this since I was a kid. I read some of his other books too and watched the miniseries with my dad. I will have to keep a look out for the new adaptation.
New York City yes, but there is an entire state with beautiful outdoors, farmers markets, rural and suburban cities, decent universities, tons of craft beer, art, and… Snow. I feel bad for Buffalo.
Point is after moving up here I get why natives get annoyed over the whole New York State vs City thing. Cost of living is definitely not that high state wide either. It isn’t perfect, but it is home.
As someone who has been using AdGuard for years, there are a ton of settings. You can select which apps to whitelist if needed, while blocking everything else. You can put in any exceptions you may need. I had a couple that refused to work that I have to allow through. Make sure you get it from their website if you want to try it out. They even have a master toggle you can add on the notification drawer thingy if you need it.
I don’t use anything Facebook or CCP related, so I am unable to attest to any claims of being banned from using adblockers, but don’t let that stop you from enjoying an adfree life. I can’t stand ads and seeing them stresses me out.
Well. I am a wench. And quite jaded. I wanted to make something I had not really used before, back when I joined the place that shall not be named, and it sort of stuck. I also really love the color green. If it makes you feel any better I am a much happier person today than I was then. Still a wench though. 😈
So i still have depression and im constantly bored, i feel like a loser who cant do anything right. I want to let my creativeness out, make something i can share with the world or family, but im probably dreaming too big. I cant stand being depressed and bored, it stinks, everyone tells me to work out but i lack the motivation...
I am so glad I got that out of my system. For now at least. I play around with and program conveyor as my job, so I got a little burnt out at one point seeing it 24/7.
Thank you so much. I feel like I can use Lemmy the way it is supposed to. One immediate feedback I have is it took me way too long to find the add account button. That needs to be in the standard menus somewhere and not a mouse icon.
Everyone who works in any kind of hazardous environment should watch this. Don’t shake hands with danger folks. You have the right to refuse to do something you feel unsafe doing. Your life and limb are not worth it. Take your safety protocols seriously and don’t let stupid people teach you to be complacent. Call out others. Turn those assholes in to OSHA, underfunded as they are.
I entirely agree with you, but a part of safety culture is to protect yourself and others. To be clear, no child should ever be hired or near these kinds of environments. Child labor, period, is a travesty and doubly so in an industrial or hazardous environment. These environments are barely suitable for adults, especially in the protein industry. If you are working in a place like this where children are hired, don’t be a bystander and let it happen. Speak up and hang these assholes out to dry. Complacency and indifference needs to stop, naive a goal as it is.
Based on the teams I have worked with in the past, people in their twenties are definitely just as bad as teenagers. Even people who are far old enough to know better still play stupid games and win stupid prizes.
More safety PSA:
The one thing I at least try and make sure those under and around me understand is they don’t have to say yes. It doesn’t even occur to them that they can refuse. Workers are told to shut up and take it enough at it is, no matter the job. Workers are told to work 12-16 hour shifts and be glad they have a job at all. We live in a shitty world and if this comment prevents even one person getting hurt, no matter their age, that is enough for me.
Final point is there are plenty of tasks that can be done with appropriate safety measures, but if you are still not comfortable, just don’t do it. Nobody can force you to get in a lift or climb that high ladder. Can you potentially lose your job? Maybe, but better than you getting hurt or hurting someone else.
Young Americans are piling the blame for their student debt balances on conservatives, according to a poll by Generation Lab provided exclusively to Axios.
True. For those that are interested, here is some history on what he has done as far as student loans go, which is not entirely bad. Also, Clinton voted for that bankruptcy bill too, but thankfully Obama voted against.
I’ve been on Concerta 27mg (started at 18mg) for about 2 months now, and I’ll admit, I feel like I could be taking sugar pills. I’ve been told by my GP that I should just wait a little longer before upping the dosage, though I’m not even sure how much of an effect that might have....
I am on Adderall, so not the same thing, but it was immediate. The constant noise in my head stopped for the first time in my life. I wasn’t overwhelmed or overstimulated by my environment. I could hear the person I was talking to and my brain was able to filter out the rest of the world around me. I was able to sit and do a task I wasn’t fully motivated to do. I was able to wait my turn in a conversation.
As time went on I had to adjust my doses and switched to time release, but I certainly know when I don’t take them. Things evened out so it isn’t quite as stark as that first year, but the difference is night and day. You still have to be aware of your behaviors and find mechanisms (behavior modification) to get past some of the other bits, but even just knowing what behaviors are due to ADHD help. Medication only gets you most of the way there.
One important thing to do is write down who the hell manufactured your medication each month. It matters. They are not all “the same”. The efficacy and side effects can be completely different even though it is supposedly the same drug. Advocate for yourself and I am thankful my pharmacy works with me on getting the right meds and knows I am not crazy when I say it is different. Due to the shortage I am not able to get generic in the brands that don’t mess me up, but I have found that the supply of name brand Adderall is stable right now and the time release curve is very smooth. I am lucky that I have the means and decent enough insurance to afford it.
To me though, it sounds like you may want to try a different medication. I know it is super stressful and seems like a big mountain to climb, but quality of life is important. You are important. Be vocal to your doctor and don’t let them dictate what you do or do not feel.

Thank you for welcoming us to the Fediverse. I hope we can bring more good than bad. People are so fragile and flawed, but we can try to not be assholes or own at least own up to it if we do.
