Five terrifying words in a row:

"sufficiently chemically skilled malicious actor"

Finding the source is left as an exercise. Happy Weekend!

"There is nothing truly beautiful except that which cannot be used for anything; everything useful is ugly; because it is the expression of some need; and those of man are ignoble and disgusting, like his poor and infirm nature. - The most useful place in a house is the latrine."

A revamped version of the Adventures Di Pinocchio, which will soon be up for grabs. I had a blast reading this aloud, in fact I think it would be great to find readers who would like to recite parts of it.

Pontypool had one of the best post-credit scenes in the history of cinema.

jamez,
@jamez@mastodon.social avatar

Incidentally, the internet needs a repository of every post-credit scene of every movie with one. Would that be fair-use?

jamez,
@jamez@mastodon.social avatar

It's really interesting how a post-credit scene can either crown a movie or leave a bad aftertaste. I think I would have hated to see the blooper reel in Being There, glad they took that one off in non-theatrical releases.

Why has the Internet never produced a recipe site that provides a flowchart instead of list of ingredients? It's such a more intuitive way to do recipes, and I have to mark up all of mine.

jamez,
@jamez@mastodon.social avatar

@ZachWeinersmith GPT-4 does a decent job at creating DOT files which you can then turn into images using vizgraph.

System Prompt: You are a flowchart expert. You take a cooking recipe and convert it to a graph using the DOT format. Emphasize the parallelism of certain tasks.

Prompt: [the content of https://keviniscooking.com/best-lasagna-recipe-bechamel/]

Output: see image.

It's not perfect, but it's a great start.

It's off to a great cinematic year with Poor Things. Visually stunning, conceptually fascinating, delightfully strange and whimsical. Go see it, be open to be positively shocked.

Still on the <=> front, it feels powerful to give readers the alternative to reply with comments on a post using either WP or Mastodon. Hat tip: @michael

Fred, this solution is not seamless: messages posted through WordPress will not federate forward (though messages posted through Mastodon will appear on the blog). I think @pfefferle is working on that one.

How to implement: install ActivityPub plugin + Michael client-side code!

@pfefferle @michael Here's a WP wraparound plugin, in case this helps.

I've given some serious thought to creating a server just for the sake of merging this account to the instance bridging my blog to the . It just feels such a burden to maintain all that just for the sake of presenting a clean, single entity on Mastodon.

@smschumacher I'm glad to have shared that sentiment with you. I think many people who enjoy blogging AND the Fediverse would love a way to merge the ActivityPub WP plugin with their "regular" account.

@pfefferle do you have any insight as to what would be the most elegant way to unify social functions (boosting, favoriting, browsing) with the ActivityPub WP plugin?

jamez,
@jamez@mastodon.social avatar

@pfefferle @smschumacher Yeah, it's a tough one to crack, isn't it?

I have mixed feelings about going fully Fediverse (avoiding synchronization with WP comment system) because it forgoes the important capacity to moderate people's comments.

But really, there should be a more comprehensive way to control the entity generated by the ActivityPub plugin. I'll think some more about it.

Rant: copy-pasting stuff out of Spotify is hard, I suppose it's their version of a walled garden. Next to that: copy-pasting lyrics out of any Japanese lyrics website is equally hard. It makes it hard for people to learn while singing along.
