Books you don't expect to appear in this type of film. The filmmaker said they were found discarded on a nearby stoop.

@vwestlife I can't remember if it or Prodigy was first, but CompuServ was definitely one of the earliest ISPs I used.

Oh btw a while back there were rumblings about a famichiki DnD? Were you still thinking about that @jezebelkat? 🤓

@FlockOfCats Yes, probably. I need to get it set up.

Although Linux has come a long way in the 25 years since I started using it with Red Hat 5.2 or whatever, there are still those squirrelly things that means if you install X, it breaks Y, and even when X is removed, Y remains broken, and you just have to bypass it.

I borked my keyboard layout and it seemed the layout applet (the Japanese flag in my previous screenshot) and the full screen app dashboard I installed did not play nice. In the end, I had to remove both.

@brian oh yes, just like 2020 and 2015 and 2005 and 1997...

jezebelkat,
@jezebelkat@famichiki.jp avatar

@brian At this point, modern macOS actually runs significantly worse than Linux Mint XFCE on this 2015 MacBook Pro, so these things are truly minor annoyances compared to MacOS randomly deleting applications, refusing to run pkgs, archive utility stopped working, random crashes, and fans going full speed while editing a text document.

jezebelkat,
@jezebelkat@famichiki.jp avatar

@brian I can more than live with my XFCE set up if it means I don't have to drop $2000 on a new machine until 2025.

@brian I've done pretty darn good with the theme, though it's pretty much entirely bespoke:

What is Japan hoping to get out of this? It’s essentially an 180 days tourist visa that you need to earn 70k USD for. I don’t know if the few people using this will boost consumption a considerable amount.

I used to ride the ABQ bus a lot. It was just $1 but free as a student, so really nothing has changed. I love the bus aside from the fact that its mostly just a shuttle for homeless people.

It's a pity because you could easily see how nice this could be for regular people.

@FlockOfCats @slims

Oh, trust me, that happened just when a Republican mayor suggested subsidies to the ART (our bus system) when it was in the design stages

jezebelkat,
@jezebelkat@famichiki.jp avatar

@slims I was a huge proponent of making ridership a community benefit without user cost. I communicated my support to the ABQ City Council.

They didn't put this to a referendum, thank goodness, but had they, I would have voted for it.

That said I am NOT a fan of ART/busses. I wanted light rail.

Shower thought: Is the broccoli haircut Gen Z's version of the mullet? In The U.S. it seems like those are everywhere on guys. I think it looks stupid, but I'm also an old man. I don't imagine that haircut will age well.

The mock-up. As the Japanese says, the lazy susan door will need to be DIY'ed from an extra cover panel.

And this will be painted turquoise/teal. I wanted solid wood in case I wanted to stain it or repaint it later. Laminate really can't take that. Also moisture and oil and all that.

Starting to use Homebrew for backporting Linux apps to macOS, further ensuring that when the day comes I must give up macOS forever, except for MS 365 Desktop (because Microsoft), I'll have the same suite of apps on both platforms.

jezebelkat,
@jezebelkat@famichiki.jp avatar

Kinda shocked this worked, honestly.

It took a while to install the dependencies, but was pretty similar to installation on Linux. Underlying UNIXiness of Darwin, I would guess.

Haven't used iTunes/Apple Music in years. Audacious has been my choice on linux for a long time. Before that, XMMS with a WinAmp-ish skin... Wonder if this version of Audacious has it too...
