The reverse was done in Montreal where such a tunnel was actually removed during Turcot project.

Mr Google has always been strange with regards to constant reconfigurations of the Turcot project. But years after project done in 2020, it still shows a spot where the tracks went under the tunnel, and has taken the former stub that served industrial customers alopg Notre Dame to Lachine and imagined it connecting to the relocated mainline. This stub no longer exists except in Lachine wher CN got rights to connect at the yards with CP, reach CAD where it can join its own stub along Victoria.

Not easy to get, but there are a couple pf street views showing passenger equipment being shunted along the old CN service track to Lachine along Notre Dame. (where cars could get on CP tracks).

With the loss of Glen Yards for maintenance, AMT/EXO was left with a Rigaud line that was unreliable and needed shunting to the yards next to the VIA ones at St-Henri until maint centre built west of Montreal West.

The Montreal West interchange was complex. The 138 fom the Mercier Bridge would join the 20 and then exit onto Ste-Anne de Bellevue Boulevard which then joined St-Jacques and then became Sherbrooke and continue as 138 to Québec City and beyond.
The 20 split into "20 only" and "20 and 138" where the exit to the 138 was on left (right of image).
Also, this where lanes flipped sides to drive on left through the turcot yards until Turcot interchange where they flipped back.

Left to right:
Westbound 20 and Mercier
Westbound 20.
East bound 20 (where streetview cam is)
Eastbound 20 and left ecit over us to 138 East (Ste Anne de Bellevuie Boulevard.

Pic 2: current situation. (middel portion is reserved bus road, 2 lanes). Less "interesting", but more efficiet and costs a LOT less in maintenance and duct tape to keep elevated concrete sections from falling apart.

@heliomass The Adirondack is a fast train to Rensselear. Maintaining that speed to Montréal would get it to Montréal by 14:30 instead of 20:30. Alas, north of Albany, the tracks are not designed for speed. Nortbound there is 90 minutes in schedule to go through Canada Customs. And there is no longer room at Central Station to setup customs pre-clearance as pre-REM agreement with USA would have allowed.
Since much of it is single tracked, a CPKC freight train can put in a lot of delay.

jfmezei,
@jfmezei@mstdn.ca avatar

@heliomass This is as per schedule. Schenectady to Sararoga Springs is CPKC and gt a lot of funding after 2008 banking crisis to upgrade the speed. But it is straight path. Schenectady to Whitehall is the part CP wanted in buying Delaware and Hudson as it captures traffic from Vermont/Maine to get to rest of USA.

jfmezei,
@jfmezei@mstdn.ca avatar

@heliomass There is a roughly 30 minute stop at Rennselaer (Albany) to not only change engines but also add/remove coach cars that don't make it all the way to Montréal. In the past during fall, they also had dome car from Montreal to Albany. (but didn't make it to New York due to height restrictions). And CN has been playing games to get Amtrak to pay for track upgrades between border and St-Lambert (the St Hyacinthe/Rouses Point sub junction).

jfmezei,
@jfmezei@mstdn.ca avatar

@heliomass Portion between south of Westport and Willboro bay goes inland and climbs. On the train, there is a noticeable slower speed on the climb. (perhaps on fall due to fallen leaves and train goes slower to not slip can cause flat wheels).

@heliomass As a point of comparison, this is my elevation cycling betwene Plattsburgh (Lake Champlain Level) to just south of Port Henry (back to almost water level). 80km, 915m of ascent, 939m of descent so the train has it pretty easy but it is still noticeable. It climbs to about 100m at one point from about 30m at lake level. My road climbs to 313m between Keeseville and Willsboro.

From IMDB, probable explanation of why Ally McBeal had been in syndication purgatory for so many years:
"Due to music licensing issues, none of the seasons of Ally McBeal were available on DVD in the United States until 20th Century Fox released the complete first season on October 6, 2009. The series had already been available on DVD in <long list fo countries in Europe>"

jfmezei,
@jfmezei@mstdn.ca avatar

@Milnoc It isn't I was able to start to watch all episode fo Ally McBeal that I realised how much music there was in it. My meory of watching some episodes back when it first aired remembered the vocal singer but not the fact that she often sang famous songs, and many famous singers actually performed in that bar on ground floor of their building. Tina Turner and many others. Still strange that they could get rights for prime time nad 1 rerun in linear TV but didn't get rights for syndication.

How things have changed. Prior to Russian invasion of Ukraine, western tourists on passenger trains pass by Russian military facilities. It wasn't that long ago that such facilities were absolutely secret with USA using spy satelites and intelligence to TRY to get a list of all those facilities. Same for launch sites such as Baikonur which were military secrets. Tourists now able to watch launches there. Ukraine invasion killed all of this.

Toronto Eglington LRT update: roadsworks along stations/alignement should be complete by this January 2024 (which will please local residents). But actual service opening not confirmed. They say it won't be announced more than 3 months ahead of it, and they need some warm weather to finish fine tuning tracks (likely tensioning for proper temperature). Worked out many signaling kinks aleady during testing.
