I imagine I’m not, but am I the only one that can’t see anything positive coming out of this ?

I understand your position and hate that we live in a shitty world where that choice is forced on people, but from what i see it from here, you guys have a choice between choosing the guy who’s not good but is at least doing some good, and the active fascist idolizing Hitler, with every neutral vote being effectively helping the fascist.

Not much of a choice, yes, but that’s where you are, and any vote not going to the not good guy will help the fascist. So that’s your choice, will you choose to fly over the cliff along with everybody else in the rest of the car or help avoiding that?

Considering the mention of a party being recommended to be at least level 60 before fighting the Dark Lord, plus some of the things that happen on Book 3 without spoiling anything, the original boss-version Yumiella never was close to the level cap, so my guess would be:

  • Current anime party close to but not up to level 60
  • Dark Lord at about level 65
  • Game Yumiella at about level 70

So yeah, Our Yumiella should be able to easily defeat the Dark Lord at this point.

Now, entering Book 3 heavy Spoiler territory (don’t look if you haven’t read it) to further justify these numbers:

spoilerYumiella 2 was the only Boss Yumiella survivor on the multiverse branch beating the Hero party because she used our Yumiella leveling techniques, so she was much stronger than normal boss Yumiella, but was still weaker than OUR Yumiella, so she never broke the level cap. That leaves my estimate of her level on Book 3 at somewhere above level 70 up to 80, maybe something in the lower 80s, but lower than level 90.

Up to book 4 here. I BADLY want the anime to succeed at least enough to let them add two more seasons, JUST so that we see Book 3 adapted. I REALLY wanna see that animated, was my fav of the 4 we have translated so far. And as a bonus, S2 should have an episode where we will see drunk Yumiella, that alone makes it worth adapting the whole thing 😂

Still, until we have word that they have greenlit more seasons i recommend people to go to the books (the manga still hasn’t finished Book 1 so the anime is further ahead).

As Yumiella herself explained i think on episode 1, you can beat the Dark Lord when you’re after certain level with strategy and good playing, but Game Yumiella pretty much needed brute force. This pretty much reflects the experience on many JRPGs (most of my experience on these is with Final Fantasy where it amply applies), you can beat the Final Boss with strategy and the right combination of skills and whatever without needing to grind much, but when there’s a hidden boss you goddamn better grind a lot and level up to even have a remote chance, damn your skills and all that. Game Yumiella seems to be in this exact spot. The things on Book 3 that i mention help in determining the levels but we just don’t know for sure without the author explicitly giving numbers anywhere (anyone around with the right connections wanna ask for us? Pretty please? 😄)

Understandable. If/when we see Season 2, we will have A LOT more on Eleonora, i hope we do.

That’s the problem with ongoing stories, it doesn’t help much the anime-only people when told “Yeah, what you want to see is on Book X which might never be adapted to anime”. And in this case it HAS to be on the books because the manga is behind the anime, the novels are the ones multiple books ahead of both.

I do still recommend going to the books though, up to at least Book 3 which is my favorite of what we have so far.

Heh, i might not be a nut like Yumiella but i do kinda enjoy all that 😄

As for the novels yes, there’s 6 volumes published in Japan and ongoing, the J-Novel Club official translation is up to Book 4, with Book 5 to be released at the end of May. Beware because the book covers and descriptions themselves kinda are spoilers (more the descriptions, the covers are more like intense teasers 😜)

That’s one of the problems of a global communication network. There was a quote i read some years ago (which i wish i could find again) that more or less said that people with some talent who in the past would have been the pride of their village now compete with world class in that skill and now are seen as “average”, yet in reality they’re talented, is just that the bar has been unfairly raised to “Beat the best in the world”.

On the Reddit thread people, at least one of them tagged as a KDE dev, mentions that widgets NEED to be able to run arbitrary code. I am absolutely baffled by this.

That doesn’t seem to be FOSS, i see no code, at a glance it looks like another closed, VC-backed commercial platform unless i missed something

A good idea i have been spreading around relevant people lately is to use ShellCheck as you code in Bash, integrate it in your workflow, editor or IDE as relevant to you (there’s a commandline tool as well as being available for editors in various forms), and pass your scripts through it, trying to get the warnings to go away. That should fix many obvious errors and clean up your code a bit.

Can’t say i feel like i have fully wrapped my head around this solution, but having migrated Mastodon instances before i see the need for it, this could help a lot as mentioned. And in addition, lots of people usually have multiple accounts across Fedi (“Here’s my main Mastodon one, here’s a Lemmy one, here’s one on Bookwyrm to rate books, here’s a Pixelfed one, etc.”) and this could help unify them which is good, “I’ll log in with this account on this server i had never seen before and it just works”.

That said, having either repeatedly seen (or occasionally, personally had) TERRIBLE experiences in the past with linked accounts on commercial platforms (like when somebody gets their Gmail account banned for whatever reason and suddenly their whole online life is halted down to banking, or when linking two unrelated accounts lets one company access to spy on the person much deeper than before, or many other cases) i have to say that i feel a visceral level of discomfort at the possibility of this coming to Fedi, even if i feel this might just be paranoia I’m still not sure what kind of power would bad actors gain over you in this setup, like admins of rogue instances, Big Tech spy-happy corporate entities once they do fully arrive here, hackers who suddenly have a magical key over everything yours, etc.

Let’s see, on one hand we have this list compiled by somebody on Mastodon:

  • mockup looks like they’re pitching a device.
  • mockup is missing critical functionality (buttons)
  • infected with cryptocurrency brainworms
  • they haven’t decided about open source yet
  • trash talking existing devices, yet being vaporware itself
  • grand claims that have no backing in reality (like Epic, Fortnite, Roblox)

And the article itself has this:

Update 13:34 UTC, 19/03/24: One of the videos Playtron supplied to The Verge, showcasing some tech used on mobile in the article linked below, wasn’t even their own and was taken uncredited from another person on YouTube, who hit them with a copyright claim and had it taken down. Not a good look.

I’m betting this is either an outright scam, or some small project by somebody WAAAAY over their head that won’t even see the light of day

@jherazob@beehaw.org avatar

Just earlier today i saw this phrase about cryptocurrency: “price discovery for bitcoin happens on an exchange that admitted a few months ago to being a criminal conspiracy”. Yeah, there’s HUGE problems with central banks, but by this point it should be very clear that a wild west casino full of scammers will not save us from that, it doesn’t matter what were the initial ideals of people about crypto, it’s main function now and for many years since it’s beginnings has been scamming real money out of people.

jherazob,
@jherazob@beehaw.org avatar

That’s just a different color of casino chip, in the end is still cryptocurrency, which as mentioned is not where we want to be

@jherazob@beehaw.org avatar

So, let me see if i understand the argument: Discord, a piece of closed source software which is very popular at the moment because they hit first (user inertia) and haven’t yet ramped up the enshittification (but sooner or later will because they already announced the intention to go the IPO route), wins over free software alternatives because of a 100% unofficial bot designed to help with one tiny niche user case most users of the platform haven’t even heard about, which is itself free software and therefore could be migrated and/or adapted to other free software?

I’m not sure the argument is very solid

A bit late but i love what I’m seeing, specially like not having to resort to external sites for the tiled image view like we had to at Reddit, useful for both pics (more likely wallpapers in my case) and memes (my most common use case :P ). Looking forward to see it grow :D
