Gave a quick check, and it costs more than twice the price to buy it in EU, everything from Pine64, for some reason, odd, will look at this in more detail later at some point in case i missed something because the idea of an open, not locked, not tracking your every move smartwatch is appealing, but that doubling the price thing is a minus.

Try setting up a personal email server in 2024 and tell me afterwards how fun the experience was

Do you mean Babbel? Hadn’t heard of it, will keep it in mind

Have read the novels out so far (3 volumes officially translated), and I’d say it does

Really like what they did with the fake OP, at this point we have very much established the setting, the main players (the main character with her rare light magic and the 3 main potential love interests), and the fact that this is a game OUR main character used to play in her former life, really like that they gave it an opening complete with in-game captures (you can notice the moment they switched to in-game captures by the pixelation in the battle scenes). Then suddenly we switch to our gal as that’s done. From now on the main 4 should be secondary, and the next episode should be interesting as her quiet life is solidly derailed, to her annoyance an our benefit 😂

Authy Desktop client will be discontinued from August 2024

Twillio just announced they’re discontinuing the Desktop version of their popular Two Factor Authentication client. Their proposed solution is for users to move to the mobile app, which of course doesn’t fulfill the use case of people who explicitly chose Authy because it had a desktop client....

As somebody who has been there before, it’s 100% possible to use email for notifications and have that fully scriptable, but given how extremely stringent email providers have become over the decades and still getting tougher as we speak, i would very much recommend not depending on email for this. Ideally you’d have multiple channels in case one fails for the REALLY vital stuff, but at least you should have one that is not email. There’s many:

  • One of the various ways to generate push notifications that have been mentioned in the thread
  • Chat messages, people have mentioned using Telegram, Signal or others, and some of those have desktop version too
  • Yes, email, but not as the only way, you don’t wanna stop receiving notifications because Google just decided your IP is spamming and is bouncing all your alerts
  • One of the various cloud notification things like the AWS ones mentioned (pretty sure all the cloud providers have their own version)
  • Something like a monitoring service or self-hosted server (I’ve used Zabbix in the past and like it, although this is FAR more involved)
  • Text messages? This will depend on services on your area, here they’re so rare i never consider this option
  • Others i can’t think about right now (need more coffee)

Whatever you do have in mind that ANY of these can fail, so if there’s anything truly critical be sure to both have a way to know if one notification system is failing, and to have a plan B to receive notifications/alerts even if one is down. Depends on how critical stuff is of course, for tests you don’t need triple redundancy or whatever, but for the service the company’s income depends on you don’t wanna have a system that stopped working and you never knew.

I am worried about the direction of Mozilla, it VERY FUCKING MUCH needs to invest on the browser instead of wasting time on “AI”

jherazob,
@jherazob@beehaw.org avatar

Half plausible, but honestly I’m more inclined to lean into Occam’s Razor and believe there’s no conspiracy and the CEO just got AI mind worms, which is an epidemic right now

That supports the opposite of your argument

The thing is that this is NOT what the marketers are selling, they’re not selling this as “Buy access to our service so that your products will be higher quality”, they’re selling this as “this will replace many of your employees”. Which it can’t, it’s very clear by now that it just can’t.

On one side I’m partly sad that he’s stopping those, but on another respect, he earned it and more!

Is Ubuntu deserving the hate? (lemmy.ml)

Long story short, I have a desktop with Fedora, lovely, fast, sleek and surprisingly reliable for a near rolling distro (it failed me only once back around Fedora 34 or something where it nuked Grub). Tried to install on a 2012 i7 MacBook Air… what a slog!!! Surprisingly Ubuntu runs very smooth on it. I have been bothering all...

Pretty much this, they don’t deserve hate but i won’t recommend them either

YouTube screwing itself with adblockers again

I use Firefox and uBlock Origin. Not sure what kind of experience anyone else is having with YouTube, but recently my home page has been empty because I “don’t have watch history turned on”. Okay, fine. I won’t be able to browse suggested videos, and I’ll spend less time on their platform....

I do have brand awareness, if i get ads shoved in my face about a brand, that brand goes into a shit list to NOT buy from

There’s software that browses to the homepage of a site and starts traversing it all, saving it all in the process

The good thing is that unlike the old QuickPic fiasco, here the apps are GPLv3, so these are 100% gonna be forked, still gonna see if i don’t keep all the eggs on a single basket
