@silentbeauties The "perfomative" aspect largely comes from the algorithmic promotion of some content, over other content. Even the mere existence of data that people are able to look at (even if it doesn't directly affect how people locate the video) can very much influence what people decide to post on a platform (looking at you PeerTube).

@silentbeauties Politics, is complicated. Many people feel that they can easily say whether something is politics, or not. Most of those people feel that people shouldn't speak of politics. But, baking bread is a political act. A radical one at that.

@silentbeauties It's kind of easy to look at almost anything as disrespectful. For example, when someone shares something that at best is questionable, is that disrespectful? If someone points out how it's questionable disrespectful? I'd say in themselves, neither is.

@silentbeauties Yeah, for whatever reason... I've been having "one of those days..." I don't think I've been dumping too much unhealthy criticism, but mentally just want to curl up... Mind you... Snow on April 29th is possibly part of it.

@silentbeauties A month ago (roughly I think about 6 weeks ago) in Europe, they were getting 30°C type temperatures... Which my suspicion would normally be more like 15°C.

I was enjoying the weather, but it was getting dry and allergy stimulating, then we got a period of rain (good quality stuff, not excessive) and it's been nicer that I have been less itchy, but it's too cool/wet to go out for much.

@silentbeauties I've heard that diesel fumes increase the "availability" of the pollen. But I think maybe the weather is resulting in changes and increases in pollen production.

@silentbeauties I've heard various research, but I couldn't put my thumb on any of it without spending significant time on Google Scholar. Which might be worth it, just not sure I am likely to accomplish it soon.

@silentbeauties I think you're talking TikTok? I have more feelings than opinions about it. Basically... The arguments supporting the ban, are very much imperialistic. If they applied those to all companies regardless of their origin, fine... But it's one company, in one country...

@silentbeauties I think there's a few things about how politics and social media are a bit problematic. Like, stuff that's just telling the truth, shouldn't be seen as political, in the "politics is bad," but it often does. There's political, and other misinformation/confused information...

@silentbeauties My sense of who to follow on Mastodon, I don't see recommendations (though I can find them). I usually think the thing is, "follow if they have content you want to see," and "follow if they have interaction you want to see."

@silentbeauties I feel the bot accounts which were supposed to be purged ended up getting anything more than words, and in the end increased absolute numbers. And a lot of people who might be cross posting, and not really engaging, or people flat out leaving. The bots don't care if there's no one there.

@silentbeauties Better than nothing, though sometimes that's not exactly true, because going through manually, may allow you to get it in a format that works. Though it would be better than if the options just went away for you.

@moira Ah, nothing in the front, yes that does make sense, you can just go up or down, it's one thing. A lot of how the front tends to work, it seems like you'll get more range, but really there's so much overlap it's not really as big a difference as you'd think.

@moira Yeah, I quite often was, "well that's really swell, but it's not giving me much on the ends I really need". I felt that I probably could swap out the crank with greater range, but then the shifter doesn't like it that well.

But, um I've not ridden in years. I wish I felt confident, but traffic is bad enough with just walking.

@moira @cheribaker I feel if it was every day, it could be a bit much for me. But it seems to be about once or twice a week. And you kind of spread it out as going, so I'm pretty cool with it.
