Welcome to Day 08. I’m heading to Strasbourg via Wingen s/Moder, then it’s on to Wissembourg, Lauterbourg and Karlsruhe - and an event there this evening

Here’s the video to start the thread today https://urbanists.video/w/aWyc7WGCVTSGv6gF5AAe69

Train 29

TER 86381
09:39 Saarbrücken Hbf - Strasbourg 11:25
SNCF for Grand Est (Fluo)

Distance: 115 km
Average speed: 65 km/h

Train type: 2 x X 73900 railbus
⛽️
🚲: ✅ (4 places per carriage - good!)
🦽: ✅ (needs lift at some stations)
🛜: ⛔️
🧳: 🙂
🧽: 🙂

: ⛔️ (€23,50 per person)

Having looked further - and @partim helped too - I think there’s no way to get an eTicket for this Saarbrücken-Strasbourg train

DB ticket machines can sell you a paper ticket for €26,60, or it’s €23,50 from SNCF Connect, then collect at a French ticket machine in France

@jon@gruene.social avatar

This X 73900 has huge windows. Perfect for a slow 1 hour 45 minute trip to Strasbourg through the villages and forests of northern Alsace

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@emmanuelwald only a quick visit! But I’ll be back in Strasbourg soon ;-)

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

Speed restrictions and bumpy bolted track. Yeah, it’s a secondary line in France. Line speed theoretically 100km/h, but it’s a lot lower in many places

Clearly the renovation work is much more advanced at the Strasbourg end of the line. South east of Wingen s/ Moder it’s better

New bi-mode trains will run here theoretically in 2024, but more likely 2026… And hopefully then the ticketing headaches will also be fixed!

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

Electrify and speed up this route to 120-140 km/h and it’d be time competitive with driving…

Train 30

TER 30522
11:40 Strasbourg - Haguenau 12:17
SNCF for Fluo Grand Est

Distance: 35 km
Average speed: 56 km/h

Train type: Alstom (now CAF) Régiolis 6 carriages bi-mode
⚡️⛽️ (⛽️ here)
🚲: ✅
🦽: ✅ (step free)
🛜: ⛔️
🧳: 🙂
🧽: 🤔 (not cleaned outside in a while)

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@Canalbaobab pas de police aujourd’hui à la gare 🙂

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@maartje Alstom had to divest the Reichshoffen plant and the Régiolis production when it bought Bombardier. And it was sold to CAF. So Régiolis is now a CAF product.

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@maartje @lewd about 15:30, by bike. And I need to take the 16:45 train to Wörth. Where should I go at 15:30?

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@maartje and Reichshoffen is in north Alsace. Go have a look! (I’m not passing it today though - it’s on the branch to Niederbronn)

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

Now arriving in Short Trousers

(I know it doesn’t mean that, but I sometimes sort of read things in the wrong language)

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

Haguenau has a smart new station. It also has a waiting room that’s nicer than anything in a new German station… but all the trains are diesel, the tracks aren’t in a great state, and a bunch of the trains to Wissembourg are replaced by buses… priorities!

Tracks at Haguenau

Bus 05

TER 400588
13:08 Haguenau - Wissembourg 14:11
Antoni Haguenau for SNCF / TER Fluo Grand Est

Distance: 32 km
Average speed: c 30 km/h

Bus type: Yutong, no idea what type
⛽️
🚲: ❓(in the hold… that’s full of water)
🦽: ✅ (lift on board)
📶: ⛔️
🧳: 🤔 (luggage hold not useable because it’s full of water)
🧽: 🙂 (inside it’s v clean)

For reasons I’ll explain once I’ve sorted this issue, I’m going to shift Sunday’s event from Görlitz to Dresden

BUT I need a venue - a cafe ideally - near Dresden Hbf, Sunday lunchtime

But the choice on a Sunday there is very limited

Have any of you been to this

Kaffeebar Chicco di caffè
https://maps.app.goo.gl/QWDnKtSnZHXaBpeFA?g_st=ic

How is it?

I checked the bar of InterCity Hotel but that’s closed. Better suggestions are very welcome!

Rail replacement bus on narrow roads in northern Alsace with a erratic driver. And even more absurd car drivers overtaking the bus. This isn’t my idea of fun.

So this happened and it hurts.

jon,

@hilaryjohn2 oh no! I assume it was sick?

This is the start of the Day 07 thread

I’ll post the video and data as soon as I can, but the mobile network is patchy here in the train near Verviers

But I’m 😡🤬 this morning. Because of Deutsche Bahn, and then the German police…

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@K1ngdaKa88 @Johanonthetrain this makes no sense! HHave you ever heard a reason why this is so?

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@partim sells Saarbbrücken - Strasbourg as an eTicket? Really? Reservations from them I know, but even tickets for trains like this?

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@partim which is also what SNCF Connect did, only to then fail at the last... and say go to a machine

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@partim DB Reiseauskunft won't even give a price though!

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@yogurt yes! Years ago. It’s nice. But currently it’s blocked at Clervaux so I couldn’t go that way
