@Kels_316 @devopscats I reckon the “make love not war” ones from last week would get a better* reaction from the MMP crowd

I've dealt with a disproportionate amount of crap on Discord this week, which I won't bore anyone with here, but I'm thinking of printing a screenshot of someone saying, without a shred of self-awareness, "what's sealioning? Is that why you won't give me the reason you banned me?" and getting it professionally framed

@MattHatton this was the fate of said octopus (minus the resin bit)

Husband's Thermomix has arrived today. Can confirm it's slightly shocking when it sends out a 360º LIDAR pulse on initial setup to identify all competing products in the vicinity. Also it has assimilation tubules to lock itself to the bench top? That bit was disturbing.

@backupbear ours ended up being a $1500 rice cooker

When shopping for batteries make sure you don’t accidentally ask for Lithium Ian — very strange dude, and won’t power your house at all.

jpm,
@jpm@aus.social avatar

@oysta and make sure you get genuine Samsang batteries, because the off-brand Samsung ones tend to catch fire and will burn your house down.

@Kels_316 @oysta mmmyes I think we’ll need to have A Chat about this. Biggest problem is going to be power of course, apparently those dishys are more power-hungry than a fascist politician.

jpm,
@jpm@aus.social avatar

@Kels_316 @oysta there were lots of other things running off your car over the last few years. I know there was at least one project to run a Dishy off DC power because it doesn’t use standard PoE

today I am reading about standardised data message formats and slowly losing the will to live.

jpm,
@jpm@aus.social avatar

@Kels_316 that’s the great thing about standards, there’s so many to choose from, and if you don’t like any of them you can just write your own

Here’s a question: what would you say is the most culturally-significant item for Australians?

(note: auspol-style answers will get an instant block)

jpm,
@jpm@aus.social avatar

@ThermiteBeGiants I think it would depend on where in Australia you are, there would definitely be regional variations.

But.

Why didn’t someone tell me you can add the same schematic sheet to kicad more than once and then any changes are applied to all copies. This is exactly what I was after. Currently splitting up my whole project in to pages, and it feels good

jpm,
@jpm@aus.social avatar

@vk3xe I discovered that, uh, not very long ago? It’s pretty neat

jpm,
@jpm@aus.social avatar

@vk3xe the pin helpers are pretty neat. Select pins on an IC, helper can create either labels or wires from the ones you’ve selected.

Also, the pin alternate mode selection function is nice.

Shit pitch: public sector engaged consultancies should apply a standardised framework of employment level codes to their employees, so that all the rank dorks in the APS and State public services know who they’re allowed to tell to fuck off and who they can’t bully

I have a really weird network issue and if anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears:

• I have four ESP32s connected to wifi, all identical boards (Adafruit's HUZZAH32), and three of them are dropping off the wifi network at the exact same time, exactly every half hour. The fourth has been connected solidly for days.
• It's not ON the half hour, but every 30 minutes, the last disconnections recorded by our Ubiquiti Dream Router have been 11:39, 12:09, 12:39, 13:09, 13:39, etc.
• They're all running the exact same code, they DO have a different set of sensors attached (and the one that isn't dropping out only has one sensor attached), but I can't see how that would affect it, and especially not across multiple boards.
• The ESP32s connect to Mosquitto running on a Raspberry Pi and it doesn't report any conflicts in clientIds, only that the boards have disconnected when the wifi drops off and reconnected when they reconnect.
• They're set to use DHCP but always get the same "static" address each time.

aliensguy.jpg

My next step is going to be to physically swap the non-dropping one out for one of the dropping ones and see if that makes a difference, but beyond that I'm completely flummoxed.

jpm,
@jpm@aus.social avatar

@virtualwolf the other obvious possibility of “it crashes with this sensor but not without it” is that the code handling that sensor has an issue and is crashing the MCU. I’m not too familiar with the ESP32 because I normally design for ultra-low-power using tiny ARM MCUs, but is there a way to get “last reset reason” out of the ESP32 like most ARM MCUs have?

jpm,
@jpm@aus.social avatar

@virtualwolf lol that’s amazing
