About to descend down the GIS rabbit hole. Wish me luck.

Ok computer-touches of the fediverse, I’ve had enough of the Windows fucks and will be installing Debian <soon>. Maybe 20 years has been enough for a viable Linux on the desktop, who knows…

So what window manager are the cool kids using these days? Is Enlightenment still a thing? I want to not have fuck with things

ausfestivus,
@ausfestivus@aus.social avatar

@jpm I keep threatening to try this with Linux Mint. https://linuxmint.com

Firecall X2.

1st was to clear a fallen tree on a fire trail.

2nd was back to the local Aldi with their faulty pressure switch that triggers their fire alarm.

Back to back jobs. 👍

@ausfestivus@aus.social avatar

And 3rd call now. Aldi again. Their fire alarm is kaput.

@decryption that last one is great. I should buy it for a work mate who is a programmer and loves his cat.

a fun thing to do is to spend hours trying to work out what an organisation really means when they say "accurate" - what level of precision and what data?

Its even more fun when everyone just says "accurate" and assumes they all mean the same thing but no one has ever given any thought to what they actually mean.

ausfestivus,
@ausfestivus@aus.social avatar

@Kels_316 if we told you what we think accurate means then you might actually be able to make us do something to actually help you.

@jpm Operator was unable to locate our address in Google maps. I had to spell it five times. I think the phonetic alphabet broke their brain.

Our home address isnt that hard. Have been here ~12 years and that is the first time someone has struggled with it.

Ahhh the marketeers are at it again. They have organised staff head shots to be done. They have given people three days notice. Everyone is to book their 5 minute slot via a shared excel sheet. I am unavailable on both the proposed days. They are getting jumpy because people arent booking in. They dont seem to understand that people might not WANT to have a head shot done.

@jpm wife and I are regularly reminded of the work required to maintain a decent yard. We have put the mulch to-up off too long. We frequently discuss moving to an apartment.

@geordie mine has done this as well. When I asked him why he stated because there was a number 69. When I asked him what made that number special he shrugged and grunted. He had no idea. It was just, if you see a number 69 you say nice.

    @decryption you should read Neuromancer. It’s a seminal work. It’s not a long book and it’s easy to read. Recommended.
