one of the things that leaves me with dread constantly, is how i'm entirely different person when talking/reading in my native language.
maybe instead of poorly improving it as i've been trying till now, i should simply just cut it off entirely...? i mean what's one more thing when i'm already a mess
@voidoverseer2501 I find it fascinating that language and even dialect to a degree has so much to do with actually suggesting personality traits and behaviors.
I've heard it said that if a person wants to be happier, they should smile more; the act of smiling affects mood as the other way around. It seems that language structures shape thought in a not dissimilar way.
As I go through my YouTube subs and clean some of them out, I am noticing that several of my formerly favorite #linux YouTubers at some point strayed from the path and became a bit.. toxic.
I understand we're an opinionated bunch, but can I please love you for your tech content without having to learn that you're politically a garbage person?
@gadgetoid Anything is better than being an edgelord. Even half of the middle aged pre-2016 libertarians I know get a pass, as long as they don't start in with some ignorant or phobic shit.
@x25e0 I understand that. It just hurts my feelings to develop respect for someone's opinion on something I care about, only to find out down the road that I might not pee on them to put them out if they were on fire.
@ba66e77@breadandcircuses@lisamelton social democracy is better. People overall aren't going to get better. We need to insist on compliance with the social contract, and take care of everyone.
The problem with the isms is that people only judge their effectiveness based on how they were practiced in history. Keeping history in mind, remember that future applications have the benefit of fresh eyes and iteration. As long as the fundamentals are equitable, unlike capitalism, chances are good.
Not all of us are "tankies" although the political right would like to characterize liberals that way. I trend toward social democracy. Socialism and communism are not the same, although again, the political right would have everyone think they are synonyms and only those in poverty and the blasphemous would want that kind of thing.
Before I take a crack at answering your question, "How does social democracy set different conditions?" which I may not be perfectly equipped for but I may try, I need you to narrow focus as I think it's overly broad.
"...if the conditions in which the ism is implemented aren’t different the outcomes aren’t likely to be either."
A buddy of mine suggested that I look into #jitsi so I did, and so should you.
If you value #FOSS and you have a need for video calling / conferencing, and if you also are elated when you find such competitors to the leading software in the field but which actually functions better (by several metrics) on top of being FOSS, then yeah.. this is for you.
@ch0ccyra1n@gamingonlinux first I heard of bird.makeup, so I excitedly went over to follow a half dozen accounts that drop niche gaming news I can't really follow elsewhere until they get mad enough to leave too.
...aaand Twitter is all fubar right now, therefore bird.makeup is too. The dumpster fire continues burning!
In the meanwhile, I read somewhere (but could not test) that you can follow individual Twitter accounts by rss feed. But don't boost this, we don't want Elon finding out.
I decided to run Power Delete Suite against my snoosite account content in the 11th hour.
If the hype is to be believed, Reddit will probably un-delete and un-edit all my posts and comments tomorrow anyway, but it's the thought that counts I guess.
Will leave my account active in case I need to roll a boulder up a hill and try complaining that they are in non-compliance with the law. Delete after that.
It's a Brave New World we're living in, and I'm all out of Soma.
@0xSim Interesting, I don't know why I didn't even consider that those posts might be hanging around on CDNs without propagating changes perhaps as quickly as they should, or other such artifacts of distributed hosting..
