Even though I live in the administrative district of the city, I try to carefully label photos as not actually urban but "first-ring suburban"—the old dense pre-WWII housing stock.

My block is almost all suburban-style new builds, but the block I walk through to get downtown is inhabited by die-hards who stayed in their homes through the 1970s and 80s when crime was high and their houses were almost worthless.

@arturovm We all thought Buffalo was going to "win" climate change—that summer would be longer, winter would be shorter and milder, and it would just be all around nicer weather.

Actually the weather has been more intense all around, with changes being more abrupt. Wind storms are frequent which makes being outside less pleasant even when it's sunny.

At least we have a nice big freshwater lake, I guess. 🤪

When Twitter was really good, it was a place that facilitated connections.

Often, the key moments in life occur because of “who you know” and “who knows you.”

This still happens for me on Twitter, but not nearly as much.

Mastodon has replaced some of this, but DMs are crucial for relationship building (and that’s missing here).

That said, this is a recent development, so it seems like a strange point of contention. 😅

I'm not trying to make anyone feel bad or be combative. Twitter's big feature is centralization and being at the right place and time. It has upsides and downsides.
