Scott Morrison’s struggle with anxiety.

It’d be easier to be sympathetic, like say Malcolm Turnbull, had Morrison not been one of the main creators of the circumstances that led to his struggle with mental health.

I hope his doctor orders him to keep a pool pole arms-length away from public and corporate politics.

National Security threat assessment leads to protection visa cancellation:
“What risk does an 68-year-old Palestinian woman with diabetes, reliant on the care of others, pose to our national security?” questions Australia Palestine Advocacy Network.

When ‘National Security’ assessments of individuals lead to questionable assessments without the opportunity to contest, it trivialises the entire system and brings its reliability into question. This is seriously concerning:

The usual ‘Anzac Day is holier than thou’ narrative from the ultra-conservative corner of Australian Politics and Media.

https://www.news.com.au/national/politics/teachers-students-lead-strike-on-anzac-day/news-story/39ef1bb10ca9dd5e7b85d63a0c75b165?amp

IF there is any granted ‘sanctity’, is its strictly only reserved for Australian families, civilians and soldiers, within their very limited duty, role and responsibility in international conflict.
HOWEVER, Media and Politicians are not granted any form of ‘sanctity’ due to its role and responsibility leading up to; during; and aftermath of deploying the Australian Defence Force.

The ‘Anzac story’ should never be used as a ‘human shield’ for Politicans and Media to hide from criticism.
Never. Ever.

It’s one thing to seek defamation damages if you are declared innocent or not guilty; different if proceedings shut down on a technicality.
Civil proceedings are based on a ‘balance of probabilities’ and not ‘without reasonable doubt’

Lehrmann should have been satisfied that he has his liberty. The heavier onus of proof in criminal proceedings exists because the judgment may take a person’s liberty. That’s not the case in civil cases.

Landlord Association’s comment on ‘Squatting’ is probably the dumbest and least insightful of them all

‘That’s the livelihood of someone.’

It isn’t ’the livelihood’ of the landowner if they aren’t making active use of it.

Let’s be frank, ‘Property’ in Australia - Residential and commercial - really needs to be scrutinised with a fine comb. The number of derelict or abandoned properties and the impact this has on local communities is too big to ignore.

There maybe some innocent landowners/rental occupants who may find themselves confronted with squatting, but generally squatting is just a liberal-democratically recognised concept that places pressure on responsible ownership. Particularly those with massive property portfolios.

Supermarket Duopoly:

So-so good, but Government also has to address,

  • Land Management: Biodiversity, sustainabilityand Climate Crisis;
  • Town/Urban planning: Walkable planning and zoning to discourage ‘supermarket’ reliance; and
  • ACCC powers: investigatory authority and funding.

Government only addressing the lay hanging fruits so far

The over reliance of ‘Supermarkets’ is heavy in non-walkable regions like the USA and Australia.

Where town and city planning are more walking-friendly, there is more ‘competition’ brought about by small and medium size grocers

It also seems like Australia’s political circle need to be briefed about the the modern ‘Rules of War’ and the protocols that NGOs and War Journalists have fine tuned with their centuries long history and experience that led to these protocols.

The Gaza Conflict is on track to being the most deadly conflict for Aid Workers, Medical Professionals, and Journalists. Quite clearly a crime against humanity.

This ‘failure’ by the IDF is no mistake, the rhetoric used by Israel’s political and military circles clearly suggest a systematic lack of due care towards journalists, NGOs and civilians.

If ‘Hamas Fighter were in WCK vehicles?
"The British Army would under no circumstances have fired on that convoy, even if we could positively identify a Hamas gunman getting into one of the cars. You would know that every single person in the car would die. It would be inconceivable that the British or Americans would do that. The fact the Israelis destroyed all three cars is unforgivable," former British Major Lincoln-Jones said.

Zeitgeist and history:

For those with long memories, or have inherited the collective memories from history books, it must be astounding to observe the Jewish zeitgeist, and seeing it twisted and corrupted to squeeze into the mould of the Zionist nationalist identity over the many decades to turn it into what it is today.

Do you know other examples in history has successfully corrupted a zeitgeist to squeeze into a far-wing nationalism-driven mould.
There are a few. There’s one in particular which highlights an especially tragic irony.

Australia’s Opposition Party stepping up to bat for Israel, despite the complete lack of reports and evidence being provided by Israel on UNRWA and WCK

Comments about ‘tragedies and mistake’ betray the ignorance towards ‘Rules of War’ and how NGOs, Medical Professionals and Journalists have navigated all the conflicts and wars up to now.

Australia has seen hundreds and thousands of Australian medical professionals, aid workers, journalists navigate war zones and conflicts in an effort to save foreign and Australian lives, minimise the horrors of conflict, and shine light on the truth.

… and our opposition party has the gall to piss on that historic legacy and be an apologist for crimes against humanity by calling attacks on protected persons a mere case of ‘tragedies and mistakes’.

'Tragedies and Mistakes', Senator Birmingham MP?

In World War Two,

Au, some 78 nurses died.
https://www.awm.gov.au/visit/exhibitions/nurses/ww2

UK, some 400 nurses died.
https://www.pipecraft.co.uk/blog/wwii-a-nurses-life/

US, some 201 nurses died
https://www.history.army.mil/books/wwii/72-14/72-14.HTM

... thats over 6-years, and arguably many of those death were preventable if respect for limiting war crimes were adhered to by all parties - as crimes by one side always fuelled vigilantism by the otherside and so forth in a vicious cycle. (eg. Civilians raped by US Soldiers in Europe between 1942-1945, https://web.archive.org/web/20230404183412/https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2007/mar/27/thesecretwar)
(n.b. finding number of Doctors was difficult. Also finding statistics from 'The Axis'; other involve countries; and civilians is difficult thanks to Internet search result biases/lack of official records.)

Compare this to what's happening in Gaza since October 2023. ...

700 Health workers killed between 7 October - 7 April 2024
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/apr/07/targeting-healthcare-workers-airstrikes-constant-fear-uk-doctors-gaza

... so as horrific and 'total war' as World War 2 was while littered with war crimes by all parties, ...

The Gaza Conflict has led to more killing as many as the casualty of 'Allied' nurses during WW2.

Even if we look at recent conflicts, and the death toll of health workers around the world, between 2016 to 2022:
Per year, it was less than 232 health workers killed.
https://www.intrahealth.org/news/2022-marks-most-violent-year-against-health-workers-conflicts-report

ki_sekiya,

So yes, Israel has effectively achieved in 6 months what the world struggles to do in a year.

ki_sekiya,
@ki_sekiya@aus.social avatar

Don't make me look at Journalists and Aid workers in conflict, comparing WW2, total of recent global conflicts, and the Gaza Conflict since 8 October 2023.

... because I can assure you, the trend is very similar. We have never seen a conflict so deadly toward protected professionals in a while, if ever.

ki_sekiya,
@ki_sekiya@aus.social avatar

Comparing the death toll among protected professionals across the globe over the past several decades showed how well the security protocols they had in place were functioning.

Organisations like UN aid agencies, MSF, etc have many decades of experience negotiating through these conflicts to provide aid to civilians and other protected persons.

To then see the death toll so high in Gaza? It really can only mean one thing.
