@kusuriya@hackers.town

I am a general systems, and computer hacker that is opinionated on how systems work and how to make them work for us all. All my thoughts are my own and do not necessarily reflect any sane or rational person's views.

You can find me here or @kusuriya for stuff that is more related to the BSD community.

I had to go shopping for defcon clothes this year... vanity, yes, I know...

It is hard as a middle-aged aged man to decide on what looks cool without trying too hard.

But I think I did it.

kusuriya,

@thegibson I always loved the government contractor look to throw people off.

thegibson, to random

There is something in the air.

kusuriya,

@thegibson Is it love? I mean it smells like burning zaibatus, but is there a difference between the two?

thegibson, to random

We were here at the dawn of this age... we had great aspirations.

We are still here today... and we have found our aspirations, once again.

The year is 2192 Alphabet and Microsoft merged for some reason that nobody understood at the time. Shortly afterward the worlds most sophisticated AI appeared on the net. It has been rumored that the merger was actually brokered by the AIs from both companies combining to form a complete AI. So far the Turing society has denied that this is even a possibility

rgegriff, to random

The year is 2130. Google launches Google Life; a free mind backup and restore service. In return, thousands of instances of your backup are subjected to advertisements every second in order to determine which ad is most likely to result in a purchase, by you, at any given moment

kusuriya,

@rgegriff I prefer the future where the Renraku incident happened https://shadowrun.fandom.com/wiki/Renraku_Arcology

Fun bonus fact, where on the map is listed the Amazon Alexa team and devices team have offices in what is modern Seattle.

kusuriya,

@rgegriff Uncle Larry is waking up from deep sleep to deal with the repercussions of the soon to be glorious battle. He reminds all of his handlers that a litch will take every opportunity to feed on the corpses of the dead.

I would like to remind people that @thegibson is a sentient AI construct, please avoid attempting to disassemble them. found it at https://www.etsy.com/listing/1174126946/no-disassemble-johnny-5-80s-movie

LinkedIn decided that because I did not disclose my deadname publicly on my account I am permanently suspended.

:boost_ok:

kusuriya,

@maddiefuzz sadly this has always been their bullshit policy, even if you have the legal paperwork to show your name was changed. I had a few buddies get screwed like this too. Its almost like microsoft wants us all to burn em down.

kusuriya, to random

my laptop has an important but timely message... FREE @thegibson

socketwench, to random

Damn, pondering the orb already.

kusuriya,

@socketwench you must ponder the orb daily inorder to unlock its secrets.

Some assholes tried to steal my van today. They failed, but they cleaned out all my camping/survival gear out of the back. Now I gotta deal with all the insurance bullshit and hope I can get it running again without totaling it out. :c

kusuriya,

@earthshine Sorry, that is terribad. At least it looks like they failed pretty hard.

A portrait of ADHD: I made my morning espresso. I cleaned up. I did not drink the espresso. I discovered it just now, 2 1/2 hours later

Did you know:
If you wanted to support the SAG and Writers guild strikes by boycotting new theatrical releases but are afraid your local theatre will be caught in the crossfire don't worry.
Theaters generally don't get a dime of the ticket sales on new releases. Most of thier money is made on a combination of concessions, events, and second showings.
Going to watch howls moving castle for the 11 billionth time and buying some popcorn and a soda helps them more than you seeing Oppenheimer on release day. Boycotting new releases basically only hurts the studio and large name actors that get lucky enough to get a percentage.

kusuriya,

@peachfront @agt @bookstodon I wouldn't go as far as saying better. Tablets and ereaders for that matter that use LCD backlit displays suck in high light environments and cause more eye strain than E-Ink displays. If I'm going to kick back on a beach or enjoy sitting in a camp chair next to a river Im going to bring my Kindle out 99 times out of 100. It's just the better device for the job.
But indoors with color things like comics or references Ill probably grab my tablet.

kusuriya,

@ctbk @agt @bookstodon and the ways around became easier a few years ago as long as you use the kindle software. You can convert PDFs and other ebook formats to a kindle format and push to the kindle directly.
Thats what I do for my humble bundle library.

kusuriya,

@peachfront @agt @bookstodon yeah all of then have their purpose honestly. I have yet to find a device that can do it all great you sacrifice something.
sometimes that something is just something you don't care about.

kusuriya,

@lmorchard @peachfront @agt @bookstodon I want a boox but have had trouble justifying it

No, website, I do not want to "Learn more" or "Review my settings" or "View details", I want a "Reject all" button right next to the "Accept all" in the cookie consent window. That's what I want. Only that.

kusuriya,
kusuriya,

@herzleid i was just letting you know that one existed and did it take it or leave it 🤷‍♂️
