Soo, I have a MacMini that's been running fine on macOS Ventura, but something went wrong with the Sonoma update, and now it's only booting to the recovery, asking me to reinstall Sonoma, which then doesn't even start because it needs to download something which is "not possible at the moment"

I can't go back to Ventura (because apparently apple doesn't habe a "something went wrong, let's roll back to before the update" feature?), and I can't go forward to Sonoma, what do I do? :confusedlucy:

kwantumkraut,
@kwantumkraut@corteximplant.com avatar

@Sirs0ri Do you have a second Mac? There should be the possibility to bring the mini into DFU and then use that Mac configuration tool to resinstall. However data is gone I’d assume.

When you’re in recovery mode does it show there’s a network connection? That might be something which could be the cause.

kwantumkraut,
@kwantumkraut@corteximplant.com avatar

@revengeday @Sirs0ri BTW if you have access to the terminal in the recovery mode you can check your /var/log/install.log file for any errors which might help triaging things further.

I have a new idea for better 2FA (two-factor authentication):

Upon logging in, the process will involve solving a captcha with distorted images followed by watching videos. Then, you'll need to solve an image puzzle generated by a poor-quality AI. After that, you'll receive an email that needs to be confirmed. Once confirmed, you'll be required to solve another AI-generated image puzzle and video puzzle for added security. Once completed, you'll receive an SMS with a code that needs to be entered. Finally, you'll need to close 5 pop-up windows, only to be informed that the session has expired.

Let me know what you think about this idea!

Oh, and everything is not programmed to be accessible for people with disabilities!

kwantumkraut,
@kwantumkraut@corteximplant.com avatar

@kaiserkiwi @revengeday You can still use only one email or SMS with the 23 digits but make sure you disable the paste function in the text field and set a time limit.

@revengeday How about the character needs to collect some data shards to restore the AI? Currently listening to this book and love it so far, hence the idea:

I have a silly idea and I might need your help. I want to make some modifications to this strange Gameboy-like device I have, including applying a different sticker on the back that has a cyberpunk vibe to it. Unfortunately, I've run out of ideas. Is anyone tech-savvy and willing to give me some tips on what to write in the "lorem ipsum" sections and if there should be anything else on the sticker?

kwantumkraut,
@kwantumkraut@corteximplant.com avatar

@revengeday Not sure how much sense it should make, here’s my suggestion:

Battery: High-cap Fusion Cell
Adapter input: Implant-to-Device
Rating: IP67, IEC 61000-4-2 Level 3

kwantumkraut,
@kwantumkraut@corteximplant.com avatar

@revengeday You could add something about being compliment to some cyber security directive or so as well

kwantumkraut,
@kwantumkraut@corteximplant.com avatar

@revengeday So!
You can also add this text:

This device has not been authorized as required by the rules of the Night City Communications Commission. This device is not, and may not be, offered for sale or lease, or sold or leased, until authorization is obtained.

(The text is shameless stolen from the FCC)

Or maybe that’s a separate sticker?

What's inside a $129 USB-C cable? Quite a lot, actually.

Quick look at the time line, gonna have a look at the yesterdays music suggestion and blocking @samreciter for making me want to spend money I don’t have (just kidding, need to know what other cool stuff you find) that’s enough social media for today this week I guess.

Somewhat the autumn mood rubs off on me.

Well, that's a new one: did you know that states this about their peer review?

"When a manuscript is accepted for publication, the names of the reviewers who endorsed its publication appear on the published article, without exceptions."
(from: https://www.frontiersin.org/about/peer-review)

So this is a hard no on principle. (I'm not worried about myself but I am very much worried about retaliations towards younger and/or more vulnerable folks reviewing for them.)

kwantumkraut,
@kwantumkraut@corteximplant.com avatar

@vicgrinberg Not that related, but recently listened to a horror audio book (written in 1911) which dealt with the topic, if that genre is something for you:

Hab gerade das erste mal gesehen. Was ein bescheuerter Film.

@kwantumkraut@corteximplant.com avatar

@SynAck @kaiserkiwi I think there’s that type of movie where it’s ok if there’s not some deep plot or at least nothing too serious. Looking at you, Fast & Furious franchise.
