Well, CVS cancelled my COVID appointment this morning. I then called 5 other ones, and none had the vaccine. Then I made another appointment this afternoon at another CVS and decided to call them. They didn't have it either, but the system never cancelled my appointment and, in fact, kept sending me information about what to do when I arrived. I have now started scheduling multiple appointments across a number of days at different CVS stores since none of it seems to matter.

Three cancelled appointments and twice going in only to find out they didn't have the COVID booster, I finally got my booster at CVS. Now on to the day and a half of feeling like shit.

My spouse is out of town for a week. Today I went to the grocery store and got bagels, cookie dough, and ice cream. I am either regressing to 12 years old or living my best life.

My reaction to the COVID booster was consistent with my previous experiences. 10am shot, felt not great by 5pm, extreme shivering for five hours at bed (helped some by two blankets), then three more hours of sweating. Got up, showered, slept four more hours. My arm is still sore, but that's the last of the effects.

Well Boo Hiss on CVS. Apparently (in Philly at least) you can schedule an appointment for a COVID booster shot even though they don't have any COVID boosters in stock yet (which the pharmacist at least agreed was suboptimal from a customer experience perspective). At least I got my flu shot, but now I need to call every day to find out if they have the COVID booster in yet and then schedule an appointment.

I cannot stress this enough. Do NOT, under any circumstance, have anything related to the security of your home attached to a cloud service. You're one breach away from everyone seeing your stuff or getting into your home. I do a lot of home automation (all local, no cloud), but for my doors, keys are the best option.

I don't think I really understand the USPS routing algorithm. I have a package coming from West Chester PA. It arrived this morning at the Philadelphia Distribution Center and then was sent to the Southern New Jersey Distribution Center this afternoon. I live in Philadelphia.

I've been waiting for over 2 years for something I could use to replace my Logitech Harmony remote (since Logitech dumped it and it has a cloud config that could die any day). I spent a pretty large sum of money on a remote that can't even stay connected to my wifi consistently. Got so fed up I grabbed an old Raspberry Pi and an RF remote with a dongle and glued it into #HomeAssistant via MQTT so I can control all my media devices with one little local only remote.

I've gotten to a point in my life (way too late) where work is not even in my top five priorities. I do my job well for the time they are paying me, but if I'm not feeling well I call out sick, and when I want to take time off I do.

I have some good news to share. Monday I'm starting at the Philadelphia Airport as Director of IT Infrastructure and Operations. The Airport is another City department, and because this is all happening before my last official day with OIT, I can do this as a transfer and maintain my vacation/sick time as well as service credit towards pension.

I'd like to thank everyone who's reached out over the last couple of weeks to help me during this strange time of transition. It meant a lot to me.

I recently shifted to working in municipal government, but because of the social media policies I probably won't post much about work. I'm an avid SCUBA diver and a hobby programmer (I work on the Kodi open source media center software and tinker with home automation). I've been in Philly since 2021. #introduction

For a long time I’ve been buying eBooks, but in the last year or so I’ve found it harder and harder to concentrate when reading that way. My reading went from a book a week to a couple a year. Last month I bought some physical books to try again, and I’m reading much more, which is nice. Plus now I can share my stack of unread books.
