I am thinking about setting up a wholly stand-alone instance that federates with nothing to get out of this treadmill of complaints about consent when someone stands up a new instance or a new bridge or...

leerayl,

@jerry why, let them build their own server. Spend their own time and money to choose how to participate. This is why I can’t be a Mastodon admin, I would be horrible at it.

@neurovagrant hmmm. Wonder if any other sync methods are affected.

Don’t have to worry about compromise of the enterprise remote access VPN used to access the office network if you don’t have an office, just sayin is all

    leerayl,

@SecureOwl sadly this is a real world example. One of the guys I work with was on a call with me and asked point blank “what are you trying to protect”, the answer was silence.

“Alexa turn on the family room lights.”

    “Ok.”

“Ugh. Alexa, you didn’t do anything. Turn on the family room lights!”

“You didn’t specify which of your families, Steve.”

    leerayl,

@SecureOwl this makes so much more sense now.

  • leerayl,

@neurovagrant you should understand controlled ingress and egress, airports are just giant routing tables for humans. Not sure @SecureOwl has ever used this analogy but seems like something they would wax upon.

“Ok. So we clear everything off of the kitchen table so it’s just an empty surface.”

    “Yeah?”

    “Yeah.”

    leerayl,

@SecureOwl growing up in a house where I saw the dining table once a year, I have an obsession with keeping the table clear. My girlfriend would say it’s a kink.

“Listen motherfucker. I don’t like you. You don’t like me. We ain’t friends and we ain’t gonna be, so don’t start any of that shit. I don’t wanna be here any more than you do, but guess what, it’s how it is and it’s not going to change. So shut the fuck up and I will tell you when I want to hear you speak.”

“Hi, so what brings you into the dealership today?”

    leerayl,

@SecureOwl I need my popcorn 🍿 if you are car shopping today

    leerayl,

@SecureOwl yeah, especially if you are trying to research. Good luck excited to follow along. I have a feeling once interest rates drop I will be doing some consolidation of vehicles. I am trying to hold out for the Scout release but may end up with something to haul a 5th wheel

    Move to phishing-resistant authentication.

Windows Hello for Business doesn’t care how many catgirls are stuck in Mexico and need $500 in Walmart gift cards because they lost their passport and their first day of work at Facebook is tomorrow and they need to bribe a guard and they’ll pay you back.

    leerayl,

@SwiftOnSecurity just yesterday I was discussing the dumb rationale being used to disable HPD and built in security features.

I don’t wanna do this but I kinda need to so…

    I am looking for vendors…

Right now I am looking at replacing some traditional VPN setups to tailscale, Cloudflare ZT, or something similar.

I am also looking for something to offer comparable to S1.

This is to modernize some of my MSP ITSM security stack to move closer to a harmonized MSP->MSSP offering

    leerayl,

@SecureOwl they popped up in my search and I have them on the list! I will check them out.

    Swede1952, to ilaughed

    Good morning, friends. 💮💮💮

    18 January 2023

My Harley-Davidson motorcycle is finally in the shop. I called the Harley dealer in Alexandria and asked if they would come and pick it up for me and they were more than happy to do so. The bike is a 2005 Dyna Super Glide Custom, I bought it brand new 18 years ago. I did some addition customization, foot pegs, wind shield, and a sissy bar. The dealer tells me that some relays need replacing, it also needs a service, and I'm seriously considering adding leather saddle bags. I know that there must be some motorcycle enthusiast out there; what do you think about adding saddle bags?

My wife is not thrilled about me riding.

“He had changed. And not for the good. He was using strong language - filthy in her estimation - and had become totally immersed in the restoration of the motorcycle.”

    • John Tigges, As Evil Does

    leerayl,

@Swede1952 as a H-D owner, I would suggest you shop around. I love all things Harley but not the Harley price tag.

Leather bags run from stock to high end painted and hand carved bags costing thousands. Go with what looks good, has strong internal bars to retain shape, and meets your budget.

You can use the big online places (J&P,Revzilla,Cycle gear) as a starting point.

There is also a really good 2nd market if you want to reuse. I have a 2005 Springer with Softail bags that are well built but have a smaller volume. I am pretty sure they also fit the 05 Dyna line, 05 bikes are just coming into the “vintage” stage so parts should be easy to find. Mine were added on as part of a custom rebuild but are 2005 H-D bags.

Word of caution, make sure you check the bag fit hardware before buying for compatibility.

“You giving a lesson in how to drive a steam locomotive?”

“Nah, this is a lesson in itemizing a hotel stay in Concur.”

    leerayl,

@SecureOwl if only people knew about the umpa lumpas that do auto-itemization.

    leerayl, to random

Fucking pipe busted. 3rd time, they just were here. Gotta keep this shop vac moving, 3 inches in an hour. No fucking plumbers available, of choice.

    Calm easy thoughts…FUCK…

    leerayl,

@bedirthan so far soonest anybody can come out is noon tomorrow. We can live without water for a night but we gotta get this water out.

Right now it’s a shop vac 12 gallons at a time. I got maybe a quarter up so far 🙁

    It sucks…

    leerayl,

At leastI will sleep hard once I get this water up. No one available till noon tomorrow

    leerayl,

Think I got about half up so far. Still no one available for flooding or damage stuff. At least I found a method to keep moving and not have to haul the water and so far it’s going quick but damn I guess about 400 gallons

    leerayl,

@SecureOwl appreciate it. Life of homeowners and a 100 year old house.

Outside some wet floors looks like we got it managed. Worst part is the 8pm on a Sunday night of a 3 day weekend.

I got the electrical stuff unplugged before the surge protector popped so at least I didn’t lose any of the media equipment.

    leerayl, to random

Ended up grabbing another NAS drive to pad out moving all this data to the NAS. I am glad I saved all these drives but damn 1 and 2 TB drives add up quick.

The good news almost all these drives have low hours on them so I am gonna Frankenstein them into some kind of enclosure.

I was thinking about the Election later this year.

Uncle Joe really needs to retire.

He has held his own all things considered but we don’t need an 80 year old at the helm.

It boggles my mind the dems think this is the best plan

    wot

    leerayl,

@SecureOwl don’t ask questions just go with it.

    SecureOwl, to random

The question is not whether we should have an NTSB-style agency for investigating information security incidents. The question is, how fucking awesome would their jackets be?

    leerayl,

@SecureOwl my girlfriend got a jacket a few years ago from the team she was on that is all black with black InfoSec patches. It was sharp and I am still jealous.
