Should I permanently leave Israel?

I’m not sure if this is the right community for this question, but it says “no stupid question” so here goes. I’m an Israeli who now lives in the US, but I am considering permanently residing in the US or elsewhere (perhaps somewhere in Europe or Canada) because I’ve become kinda disillusioned with Israel for a variety...

lurch,

i personally think whoever still lives in israel or palestine and maybe even has kids there, after 80 years of conflict, is crazy. it’s basically “the badlands” and i think you should cut ties and settle down in a safer environment.

i don’t think the US or Canada is the perfect place to live, but it’s definitely better and safer than israel. i think EU, New Zealand, Australia and Britain would be even better, but you already live in the US and moving to another nation is often a lot of work, so maybe it’s best to stay there. The differences in quality of life are very small IMO.

lurch,

Yes, I have an idea. My family is very international. It’s a lot of work to move country, as I mentioned. One of many good steps is to look for work in other countries and get educated, which also solves being poor.

Apologists like you contribute to people raising children in dangerous conditions. Families had 80 years to relocate.

I have very limited empathy for people having children in and near heavily contested areas.

lurch,

just want to add in theory there are legitimate reasons to cancel other than legal, e.g. customers system is compromised and must be taken off to stop the attacker.

lurch,

lol, it’s a bit of a tight fit to squeeze “right” in there (pun intended)

lurch,

i think you have to start the service that configures your network. maybe you have to load the kernel module for the wifi adapter before that, idk.

however, it’s weird you have to do this from initramfs . why doesn’t it boot further?

also, shouldn’t there be the old kernel and old initramfs from before the upgrade still available in your boot manager to choose somehow after the BIOS is done?

lurch,

me? i didn’t recommend that. if you have your wifi, you could update now. however, if you don’t have a backup yet, you should 100% make one. i always make fresh backups before a dist upgrade. (everyone hates the way I’m doing it, but it works really well. i just tar every important fs with --one-file-system on a 1TB USB stick. if they don’t break at writing, they will be able to store the data much longer than i would need.) meaning, in your situation I would already have one and it sounds like you forgot that step, but idk.

lurch,

shareholder power is limited. best they can do is vote against top executive pay until they get to install one who does what they want.

the shareholder value stuff is mostly talk of non-shareholders, because if you hold shares, you notice it doesn’t work that way.

lurch,

it’s still ignoring your manually set browser language preferences and is instead using your IP to guess your location and use the primary language of that country, because google is shite

lurch,

probably requires you to keep its cookies

lurch,

bing started doing it a bit too and DDG is using both their indexes/results

lurch,

Kind of a big “But” for a company that makes so much background stuff run with the same SYSTEM account and doesn’t even drop privileges to dedicated users like more sophisticated OSes (e.g. Linux) do.

lurch,

Be vigilant: Whenever this happens for a species, some crazies surface who instantly want to legalise hunting it. Happened for wolves, whales, you name it. I’m like dood chill, it was almost extinct few months ago wtf

lurch, (edited )

I remember when people hated on the newer ones having black main cast. I pointed out that it always had all colors, even green (prominent example: Yoda), blue and red. It’s impossible to please all the haters. They’ll always find something.

lurch,

Let’s call it Charlie and the Ready Player 2 Factory 🤣

lurch,

I’m also hard for some naughty workplay 😉

Don’t be silly. Adults only eat potatos /s

lurch,

… and on my block list. I can’t put “hits” on it. Too many false positives

lurch,

that's really sad news. if shell is in, it's just greenwashing and deception

lurch,

maybe the real communion were the people we bit along the way

I'm really annoyed by how much Brave Search is pushing AI

I’ve been using Brave Search supplemented by Startpage for the past 2+ years. When I search for something, I want to get results for credible webpages, not a summary of unknown quality. I liked the previous AI inclusion because it was instant, didn’t take up much space, and I could quickly navigate to the websites referenced...

lurch,

sorry, most are too private to post them here, but an exception was:

MySQL RAND

I expected to find the actual manual page from dev.mysql.com , but it wasn’t even in the first few pages.
