Back in my day (class of 96), you kinda had to choose. Most kids liked them all but was your favorite band Nirvana, Soundgarden or Pearl Jam? I wouldn't have said it then but Nirvana wanted you to think they were cool. Edgy. Soundgarden just wanted to make good music. Pearl Jam was about community and purpose. Fuck Ticketmaster. #GenX https://www.npr.org/2024/05/23/nx-s1-4977330/live-nation-ticketmaster-sued
If #journalism went for viewpoint diversity, wouldn't it need to entertain flat earthers etc? So I'll agree that background diversity makes sense, but race and gender and sexual orientation are not enough. We should also want diversity of economic status, education and location etc. You have to try to do it all.
I'd rather there be harder lines drawn between reporting and commentary. Big orgs that try to be neutral for the former, total decentralization for the latter. All funded directly. #NPR
@gabriel@wjmaggos haven’t the vast majority of people throughout human history been flat earthers? So yeah I would think they should probably get a say in journalism considering the newer and shorter lived theory is round earth theory.
@gabriel@wjmaggos oh I just mean most of our media comes from a perspective that representing 1% of the population and no one seems to care about that. But as soon as it’s a subject matter that doesn’t represent the views of that group it’s pitched as something downright insane. Holistic medicine gets this treatment often times. Or certain diet choices.
Many “man on the street” style interviews are done this way to demonize or poke fun of the average person and their views of the world.
Can you please point to any evidence that supports people belonging to the peasant class supporting slavery or are you just being inflammatory William?
@wjmaggos I love how much of a buzz phrase “democracy dies” is.
Can’t wait for the masses to get burnt out by this dogshit rhetoric and people just start responding “good let it die” because you all over buttered the bread.

I think the best we can do is try to help people think more clearly, have access to better information and engage with other opinions in good faith. #LiberalValues
This #JRE episode is nutty awesome sauce. Serious #BehindTheCurve vibes. Hearing conspiracy folks deal with people who believe in competing conspiracies should be enlightening, but it never seems to work out that way.
How about kids under 18 don't get smartphones (Dumb phones okay?), don't get tablets either, has to go on the family computer in the kitchen again and especially don't get to have accounts on social media?
That would just about solve about most of the problems currently
