insists on displaying metric tons as "Mg" (mega gramm). Yes, technically correct, but what nerds use such a unit in everyday life?

An ticket regarding this exists since 2018 without resolution

I didn't quite comprehend what I had in front of me until I did a disk image of it. Yes, that is indeed a 64 MB (megabytes!) SD card. Where do you even get SD cards with such tiny capacities these days?

I want to build my own (https://github.com/hoglet67/RGBtoHDMI).
There's a 12bit board, there's an extender board and there are TTL buffer boards. Do I need them all to connect my to a modern display?

martin,

@phranck @tommythorn @NanoRaptor sweet! Now I have to figure out how to acceptably run NeXTSTEP on a Pi

martin,
@martin@maciaszek.social avatar

@tommythorn @phranck @NanoRaptor Previous (http://previous.alternative-system.com) might work. I was able to compile it on my RPi4. Now I have to figure out how to install NeXTSTEP m68k in this thing

martin,
@martin@maciaszek.social avatar

@phranck @tommythorn @NanoRaptor Looks promising so far

martin,
@martin@maciaszek.social avatar

@phranck @tommythorn @NanoRaptor My biggest gripe so far is that it's historically accurate slow. (emulating a 33MHz Motorola 68040)
I got spoilt by NeXTSTEP running in VMware on modern hardware. But I guess there's a price to pay for emulating a different hardware architecture instead of merely virtualizing it

martin,
@martin@maciaszek.social avatar

@phranck @tommythorn @NanoRaptor I‘m still at the second stage installer so far

martin,
@martin@maciaszek.social avatar

@phranck @tommythorn @NanoRaptor sure, once it actually successfully installs 😆
So far I just followed the compile/install instructions from Previous‘es readme and then the instructions from https://youtu.be/dMh0WsLZZVY?si=i_9IXVDkwu4yq0qk

martin,
@martin@maciaszek.social avatar

@phranck @tommythorn @NanoRaptor That's disappointing. The emulator gets laggy at times and the mouse pointer takes seconds to update its position.

Some ESP32 dev boards are so annoyingly wide. If you want to wire them up on a breadboard you have to resort to these frankenbreadboard abominations

And yeah you can still burn CDs in Windows 11, and you don’t need drivers or extra software either.

martin,
@martin@maciaszek.social avatar

@thomasfuchs Surprisingly, you can still do it in the latest version of macos too. Even though Apple ditched optical drives some time ago

@stooovie Ah, I was too impatient. I went there before but it just displayed "no backups yet". But I was just too impatient. It took a moment for the list to populate

martin,
@martin@maciaszek.social avatar

@balloob I had so many backups that it took a moment to display. I was just too impatient and clicked on some other option. now it's all good

I wonder if there is a downloadable mbox archive of the cbm-hackers mailing list.
There are some archives created by hypermail but they're awkward to browse. I prefer to dump a mbox into my MUA and read them like they are intended to be read.

A question for the people on the Fediverse.
Let's say I have a function like in this screenshot. It's supposed to return a constant defined in pyserial.
What would be the correct type hint for that return value?
