What are your favorite features of Zsh (aka "The Z shell")?

mathiasx,
@mathiasx@mastodon.xyz avatar

@rasterweb there are no more letters after z so it has to be the shell’s final form.

@rasterweb don’t worry, you’re already in my feed reader.

@rasterweb I haven’t yet. Thanks!

I've been trying out some Rugged Box designs... The small one isn't great, the larger one is much better, but too large for some uses.

The smaller one has an OpenSCAD file though, so I may hack at it a bit.

I do like the use of 3mm hardware in the larger design.

Also with the larger one I had to chase down and resize the latches.

@rasterweb here’s another parametric design I’ve been meaning to try out, for hooks. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1367661

Has anyone used https://kiwix.org/ ? I’m particularly interested in using it to scrape large websites into an offline “neighborhood server” that can provide some reference without full websites.

mathiasx,
@mathiasx@mastodon.xyz avatar

@joe oh, this webapp will run completely on the rpi server, no internet access. Users joining the wifi AP get a captive portal / DNS that allows them to see stuff on the server. Ideas in https://github.com/mathias/projects/issues/3 so far.

mathiasx,
@mathiasx@mastodon.xyz avatar

@joe I haven’t tested it yet but using a travel router that runs off USB power. That’ll all be solar powered (along with the server.)

Edit: also it is supposed to be possible to extend the mesh with APs that support WDS, but I haven’t tested this yet.

mathiasx,

@joe it’s my idea of resilient hyper-local and sun-powered infrastructure. But will introduce it to the community more as a solar powered little free library for ebooks, as an in.

@joe I'm thinking that or running on my neighborhood-only solar-powered server, as a hyper-local coordination/calendaring tool.

@joe @requiem I set up a thread over here just to capture my thinking and what I'm working on for the software side of the neighborhood solar-powered server: https://github.com/mathias/projects/issues/3

I'm using Creality Slicer for these Ender-3 S1 printers and there's a python script that mostly (but not always) adds a thumbnail to the gcode.

Also, Creality Slicer often loses the ability to show some contextual menus so I quit & relaunch it a lot.

And I really wish I moved this printer off my desk before starting a 12 hour print.

mathiasx,
@mathiasx@mastodon.xyz avatar

@rasterweb fwiw Prusa Slicer seems to work fine with Creality printer. (Ender 3 v2)

What other little computer kits / homebrew computer kits are out there besides the RC2014? Just curious, want to learn a bit more.

@amoroso others, including other CPUs. Just doing my research.

Having upgraded my Ender 3 v2 to its almost final form with a Creality Sonic Pad (I know about the licensing issues, you don’t need to tell me), I’m now debating going from the direct drive extruder upgrade back to a Bowden tube extruder. I’ve had issues with locating a filament dryer box near the printer and then getting the filament to the printer without it going across and entering the extruder stepper at an extreme angle. Any binding causes the print to get ripples.

mathiasx,
@mathiasx@mastodon.xyz avatar

@Triffen I didn’t mention it, but removing the extruder motor mass from the print head means less mass swinging around to cause vibrations for the input shaper to account for. But I may just keep the direct drive extruder for all the reasons you listed.

mathiasx,
@mathiasx@mastodon.xyz avatar

@Triffen it also definitely improves my prints to store filament in dry box and run the dryer heater during printing. My house doesn’t have central AC so humidity in the summer upstairs can be high.

mathiasx,
@mathiasx@mastodon.xyz avatar

@Triffen I noticed more issues going from .16mm layers to 0.2mm layers (many more visible layers on edges on 0.2mm layers) than in changing speed so far. I’m debating redoing my “squash ball” feet prints, though, because I think the squash balls have fully pressed into the feet and aren’t providing any vibration absorption.

mathiasx,
@mathiasx@mastodon.xyz avatar

@Triffen I’m still printing at 40mm/s walls & 20mm/s first layer, though.
