Hmmm.... Here's something; another species of dictionary spam kinda

I get a lot of bots hitting my website. A lot. I shut out a lot of them (esp. SEO and AI scrapers) and some of them even honour my rate controls and refusals but today I'm seeing a swarm of what I assume are bot requests with the user agent listed as various random letters of the alphabet. The letters seem to be working together as they sweep through various directories.

Anyone seen this or knows what it is?

I announced the new version of my art code yesterday, and a new slew of solid geometry stuff and hooks to my art shell was part of it. So here's a little bonus treat made with these things:

"large red fish fills portland dodecahedron at center"

New release of my art code libraries

Implementations of the Archimedean solids plus a few other fun ones and an integrated better 3D rendering of them. Pens. Hobby curves.

There's also a lot of future-looking infrastructure here (see: "maker functions" in the release notes), a fair amount of clean up, performance, etc. Click the "browse" link for detailed release notes.

Triangulation experiments

Stupid simple:
Draw a curve from hither to yon
Draw another curve from hither-ish to yon-ish
Interpolate N points on each curve
Draw a chain of triangles
Colour

mathling,
@mathling@mastodon.social avatar

Interpolate additional paths in between and triangulate between each of them

Bit of a quilted look

Someone smarter that me could figure out how to set stroke widths and opacities to smooth this out perhaps

mathling,
@mathling@mastodon.social avatar

With Delaunay triangulation

Which has now sent me down a rabbithole of reimplementing my Delaunay implementation because it is slower than I'd like and I want to avoid those cross-gap triangles as well

Another day, another power outage. I don't blame PG&E this time: I blame the idjit with the oversized vehicle driving to fast for the road smashing into the power pole.

Hmm... it appears someone had crashed into a power pole down the street, knocking out our power for lord knows how long. On the plus side, it means I am spared watching the trainwreck that is the Quakes as they stumble towards loss number nine ⚽

"Spuds" as he came to be known. A mellow cat beyond belief. He started life on the streets, but was utterly inept at taking care of himself. He almost lost an eye, a leg, his tail. He did end up with a smashed jaw and a snaggle-tooth.

After taking him in for emergency care the third week in a row (for a "cat-engine interface" event, as the coworker who called us described it), we just adopted him.

No regrets.

For the record, this was my brother's idea

Well, this is just great <sarcasm/>

Some private equity firm sent us a "check" with a low-ball cash offer for our house. It looks in all respects like an actual check, complete with the signature area on the back.

It all feels quite slimy, like an attempt to trick people into selling their house.

Nothing says "vibrant community" like scores of empty houses run as vacation rentals.

Gods, I hate PE and all its works

Again for people (racists), complaining about falling birth rates:

The birth rate for women over 40 is not falling. The birth rate for women over 30 is not falling.

What's happening, is girls 15 to 17 are having fewer babies. Kids are having fewer kids.

Also, this is an interesting way of saying that "Teen pregnancy is down, due to sex education and contraception."

In 1991 25% of 15 year olds gave birth before they turned 21. That's bad. Now it's 6%. That's better.

Read an article about a poll. Headline: most American men think Trump respects women and vast majority of Republican men think so

I snorted my coffee, no lie

Well, if that is respect, it is any wonder women aren't interested in those guys?
