Shout out to everyone on Threads who makes it easier to follow their posts (and not just rely on the Threads angorithm being kind) by turning on fediverse sharing 🫡

Go to settings > Account, and turn it on.

No need to create a Mastodon account or anything, it’s literally one step and forget it.

Delta has finally been dethroned from the top spot on the US App Store, and it took a company giving you free donuts for installing their app to do it.

Apple has had to remove Threads from the App Store in China, but federated Threads accounts can still be seen on Mastodon and other ActivityPub-powered services because…well, open protocols are awesome.

Agreed with pretty much everything in this conversation. I think it’s great that new social platforms can tap into the networks people have already built on Mastodon, Threads, and other existing services.

My dream is for ActivityPub to be to social media what RSS has been for the web.

I'm seeing a lot of confusion on Threads from people wondering what they need to do on Mastodon once they turn on federation for their Threads account.

The good news is the answer is literally nothing.

You don't need to create a Mastodon account, all federation from Threads will do is let people who are using Mastodon to follow your Threads account.

I really appreciate how Threads explains federation when you go to turn it on. It’s admittedly a complicated thing to fully wrap your head around, but the basics are not that scary.

I’ve always said to think about it like email. You can use Gmail, but you can talk with people using Yahoo, Outlook, or Apple Mail as well.
