@jamesthomson @KevinHoctor You are definitely healthier at 50 than at 40. I feel like I’ve got a shot at it too, having not just a physiotherapist, but also an on-site two-year-old personal trainer.

Feeling a bit haggard today as I try to work while dealing with a bug that my son kindly brought home from nursery. The grey hairs are definitely winning. Recording the podcast this morning was much tougher than usual, too; had to edit out some coughs. Sorry about that.

In brighter news, I played with my son in a huge cardboard box for a while yesterday, after building the wheelbarrow it contained. Can confirm that playing in a big box is still excellent fun. Would recommend. ★★★★★

Sunday morning language meltdown:

I'm writing an example sentence about buying flowers, and suddenly, "nursery" seems like a weird word to me.

Do we really buy flowers at a "nursery"? It's also where we keep babies.

Sure, we nurture both flowers and babies, but will people outside the U.S. know that a nursery is where we buy flowers???

Maybe I should say "hardware store" instead.

OMG, why do we buy flowers at a HARDWARE STORE...

@grammargirl UK: nursery = grown/living plants, flower shop (or perhaps florist) for cut plants. “Garden centre” is more common for living plants.

“Hardware store” is very American, and here would be a DIY shop/warehouse for tools, building materials, etc. Generally, “store” on its own is very US. DIY shops invariably have garden centres within/attached.
