TRANS FRIENDS:
Would you be willing to let me share pictures of your transition timeline on my blog?

There are so many of us that feel like it will be impossible to ever be ourselves. I want to show what social transition, HRT, and/or gender-affirming surgeries are capable of doing for us because I know that would have made a difference for me once upon a time.

If you can reply or send me a direct message with your timeline or before/after images, and let me know whether you want your name/masto handle on it or if you would prefer to have no name/handle on it, I would really appreciate it! The piece in question will discuss a little bit of complicated history of the before/after transition images but then focus on the power of seeing how dynamic our bodies are and how much is possible through different kinds of transition. If you change your mind after sharing, I can always remove your images.

@JoscelynTransient Sure, though you wouldn’t believe how hard it is to dig up pre-transition photos of me. This is 2019 to 2024, about 2.5 years of HRT at this point. You can use my first name, though I’d prefer if people needed to do some legwork before they found my handle.

@Impossible_PhD thank you so much! Transitioning, even just socially at first really allowed me to take up portrait photography. I used to only do street photography before.

TRANS FEM FRIENDS: What do you wish you could say to the person you were before transition who thought it was impossible to ever actually be a girl or be fem?

I sometimes think back and find myself at a loss at what would have supported that girl best. She was so sad, hopeless, and often dissociated or in fight/flight/freeze/fawn over her distress with how she felt like she couldn't fit in the world. And like, I know "it gets better" or "it really is possible" wouldn't have gotten through.

I talk to a lot of young trans folks who go through this still every day, and so would appreciate others thoughts on this!

@JoscelynTransient that ultimately things turned out fine. I was so convinced that even expressing femininity would ruin my life. I probably would have transitioned earlier had I not had that shame, but you know, lessons to pass down to the next generation.

Redoing a popular, yet largely unmaintained side project of mine and going all in on finding a nice component library to settle down with and raise a site together. Thinking of going with NextUI. They seem stable, but just the right level of branding compatibility to not spend forever tying to fix them for me.

I think I stumbled into an issue where a compiler is hallucinating and breaking the types of the source it’s trying to simplify. Has anyone had any experience with this, especially with Webpack?

Web dev question: I'm having a weird issue where I add an eventListener to a YouTube element, event properly fires, but if within the event I add a setInterval, the interval temporarily stops while ads play, and resumes after. How? setInterval was clearly "queued up" properly since it starts/stops, and I thought it was independent of the element?

Am I just not understanding event listeners? 😛

@christianselig not speaking for YouTube specifically, but usually media players have separate media elements for displaying ad content, mostly because no one in advertising trusts one another. Could be that a separate media object is generated for the ad and the media element you’re binding to is paused until the ad media object ends.

@Impossible_PhD like can this even be described as passive aggressive? Just seems doubly aggressive. I’m so sorry.

Listening to Detransition, Baby while at work was a mistake.

@JoscelynTransient Everything to do with pre-transition Amy was a bit too much for me to retrospect on like 10 minutes before a meeting. Plus the endless messiness.

Liking chocolate now after a lifetime of hating it is a low key existential crisis for me. Is it age? Estrogen? Progesterone? I don’t know, but I can’t believe this has happened to me.

This shit has GOT to be a major miscalculation and a losing strategy. It has GOT TO BE.

@ubiquity75 Seems like the natural extension of every other anti-autonomy policy the GOP has been pursuing. Just like they went after abortion, and trans people, they'll go after divorce, birth control, and workplace protections on the basis of race and gender.
