I finally finished .
A game I would wholeheartedly recommend to anyone who's into open world and/or Spider-Man. Or even people who are just up for a good story.
I really had a ton of fun with this game. And the ending caught me off guard with how much it touched my heart. 🙂

(Looks at giant backlog pile)
So...what's next? 😅

mforester,
@mforester@rollenspiel.social avatar

@ShareYourGames I have a few contenders. 😅
I want to get into Resident Evil 4 Remake, but I'm waiting to see if the price drops during the Steam summer sale later this week.
Then there's the Winters DLC for RE 8, which I haven't played yet.
And I recently had a craving for Dark Souls and realized that even though I've owned the "Scholar of the First Sin" edition of DS2 forever, I have never played it.
And on Switch there's Yoshi's Crafted World.

World is an interesting place. I reported a bug in regarding a build issue of their . In that thread, a certain member of the project kept attacking me that this is a bug and it does not happen in . Their defense was that it builds nicely on our CI.

I showed them that this is an issue on Arch and all Arch-based distros because end user is not a freshly installed Arch with chroot. Ultimately then banned me from their repo.

@Mehrad dude...that sounds so much like my recent episode with MinIO. 😩
I'm not banned from the repo, but it's the first time an issue of mine has been locked down to allow only internal comments.
They then quietly fixed the bug I reported. Without a very kind and exhaustive surprise comment from inside MinIO, I would never have learned that they fixed it. Because the devs didn't even link it back to the issue.

I wrote a quick blog post about using (the CLI/TUI fuzzy finder) in your daily workflow. I hope it can help you to improve your workflow and day-to-day experience in terminal.

More posts with a little bit advanced setup is on the way, but I'm still working on it.

mforester,
@mforester@rollenspiel.social avatar

@Mehrad pretty cool. I've only ever used fzf manually in some commands and to my shame haven't even considered putting it into aliases. 😅
But I utilize it heavily with telescope in nvim. 😁

mforester,
@mforester@rollenspiel.social avatar

@Mehrad nothing I can use out of the box. I've played around with the three examples and while they are pretty cool, I don't think they'll end up in my workflow. Mainly because I have most of it already covered with vim and plugins. 😅
But it showed me what is possible with the 'fzf' command. I'm amazed at what you can do with a few simple parameters.
I'll have to keep that in mind for the next scripts I'll be writing. 🙂

Finally got some time to play again.
And I took some pictures for y'all. Nothing much, but I always felt like coming empty handed when talking about my play sessions. 😅
I feel like I'm coming up on the end of the game. I've cleaned up most parts of the city and the game is showing me 85% completion. Chances are good that the next play session will be the last. 🙂
I've enjoyed my time with the game and it's alright if it doesn't overstay it's welcome.

mforester,
@mforester@rollenspiel.social avatar

@ShareYourGames I did enjoy Spider-Man as well, but after a while the usual open-world fatigue set in. 😅
But the story was worth pushing through, so after a while I started mainlaining the story and ignoring any activities in the city.
Miles Morales is much smaller in scope and I guess that's why I haven't gotten tired of it yet. My playtime right now is about 10h and I feel like I'm close to being finished. 🙂

mforester,
@mforester@rollenspiel.social avatar

@ShareYourGames and I think it's less repetitive than Spider-Man, although I can't put my finger on it. It is pretty much more of the same, but Miles plays a bit differently compared to Peter Parker. The side quests are a bit more varied and again, I think the smaller scope is to it's benefit. 🙂

mforester,
@mforester@rollenspiel.social avatar

@ShareYourGames how do you like it so far? I've heard mixed things about the Dark Pictures Anthology and haven't played a single game myself.

    A quick on because I was thinking about this a lot after a mentoring talk:
    Do not care in the slightest whether a blog post is already covering your topic. Do not care in the slightest whether you think you are noting down "common knowledge."
    Write it for you. Tell yourself, "I write to structure my thoughts, archive my learning, and openly share knowledge".

    mforester,
    @mforester@rollenspiel.social avatar

    @odddev that is great advice. 🙂
    I have a blog post ready -- it's the most personal I've written yet -- and I've held it back for more than a week now, because I'm afraid I have nothing new to say.
    This has helped me a lot.

    Is it just me or does the really have the worst parental controls?

    What I expected:

    • only games suitable for the configured age are displayed in restricted mode.
    • Language can be configured per user.
    • Parental controls are applied per user.

    Instead:

    • user accounts are not seperate. Language and parental controls are systemwide.
    • DOOM is displayed prominently on the home screen. That's a Revenant (i.e. has a human skull) backed by flames.

    mforester,
    @mforester@rollenspiel.social avatar

    @ShareYourGames to be fair, they wouldn't be able to play it (untested, but that would be a major oversight).
    But I'm disappointed that it shows up. I'm used to wearing metal shirts and my kid recently started asking about what the monsters were doing and "why are they screaming". The screaming skull with rocket launchers on shoulder pads is pretty much the same. 😅
    And yes, I've stopped wearing most of my shirts. I have a few funny T-Rex ones left, so I'm fine. 😅

    @ShareYourGames the kids are still a bit too young for Jurassic Park.
    However, it is one of my favorite movies as well. They are gonna watch it eventually.
    I sadly never got to enjoy it in the cinema. I think I was too young when it came out. 😔

    mforester,
    @mforester@rollenspiel.social avatar

    @ShareYourGames I don't think I rewatch them every year, but I've rewatched the old trilogy countless times. 😁
    And Jurassic World is actually a pretty good sequel. Fallen Kingdom less so, because it falls down hard at the end. I'd have to rewatch Dominion to figure out if I really like it or if I forced myself to like it. 😅 I was so happy to see the cast from the original, that I might have overlooked a bunch of flaws with the movie. I have a feeling that it's secretly not that good. 😅

    Yeehaw! 🥳 It's the weekend and one of the shittiest work weeks in recent history is done.

    @killyourfm @thunderbird I'm so looking forward to moving back to Thunderbird. I've used it for years on my home PCs, but I eventually dropped it because I mostly read my mails on my phone. And moving to ProtonMail seemed like the final straw, due to ProtonBridge being behind a paywall.
    But I'm ready to pay for having my mail kept safe and unscanned and I'm ready to reply to mails lightning fast (a.k.a. on a physical keyboard). I'm ready to come back. 🤩

    mforester,
    @mforester@rollenspiel.social avatar

    @killyourfm you're talking to the maniac who's doing most of his homelab maintenance work from a terminal emulator on his phone. Often using a remote instance of vim. 😅
    I kinda made my peace with soft keyboards on a phone, but I'm significantly faster on a real keyboard.
    For a while I was even using a bluetooth keyboard to write my blog articles on my tiny (compared to a desktop) phone screen. My older son had a very light sleep, so I decided to just work in the bedroom. 😅

    So… am I the only one that uses Mastodon with blinders up to the grand concept of the ?

    I acknowledge it exists, I like the idea, but… it doesn’t really affect me? I don’t really understand why people feel the need to explain the concept to newcomers, and risk potentially turning them off. People these days need a 5-second sell on things.

    I just see Mastodon as a mostly similar, slightly different, successor to Twitter. No reason why it can’t be explained that way.

    mforester,
    @mforester@rollenspiel.social avatar

    @tashen I kinda agree. I remember ignoring the "Fediverse" aspect for a few weeks when I joined Mastodon. It took me a while to wrap my head around the way Mastodon worked.
    Once I was ready, I started actually reading the Fediverse explainer messages that where floating around. And it was revelatory. I'm still impressed by what is available and it keeps growing and growing.
    But I also feel like I got the hang of self-controlling my experience rather quickly, so the explainers didn't bother me.

    I'll say it, game graphics are good enough now, we don't need to keep pushing them for this to be the consequence. keep the graphics as they are and focus the next 10y on just improving production pipeline for the existing tech, different game experiences & alleviating crunch.

    mforester,
    @mforester@rollenspiel.social avatar

    @djlink I'm with you on that one. In fact I often find Indie games with a distinct aesthetic more visually appealing than anything going for "photorealistic" visuals.
    Additionally one of these ages well. I wonder which that could be. 🤔

    I'm actually quite pleased with myself. We kinda lost Nick along the way. This time for real. 😅 It was not that spectacular, but funny.

    At other times I'm bored out of my mind and stop listening after a few minutes, because nothing in that meeting relates to me. I shouldn't have been in that meeting and although we've improved our meeting culture, this still happens regularly. 😩
