If lore.kernel.org was slow for you this morning, this is because the fscking tiktok bot crawler hit it 1,813,470 times over 10 hours.

@MagicLike @monsieuricon yeah it's been going on for a while, even MattKC made a video about it DoS-ing his site.

So passkeys ended up going usernameless/resident aka doing the well known UX disaster and security disaster (keys need the ability to be rolled easily) of cryptography as the only mean of identification, and then of course ended up discovering that it actually doesn't works well at all.

@lanodan honestly feels like a classic case of feature creep. Kinda think it was best suited as a 2nd factor. Maybe you could justify them being a password replacement, but definitely no way they make good username replacements

ideally there would be an mrf where it would just block images from accounts <X hours old, might even be possible with the existing stuff but I might have to move to the text config for that

hearing more windows 12 rumours lately, wonder if microsoft will try to quickly forget that 11 existed like with vista post-win7

So apparently YouTube taking its sweet time to load videos is supposed to be another “trick” to punish adbockers, but instead it just ends up punishing Firefox users. https://www.404media.co/youtube-says-new-5-second-video-load-delay-is-supposed-to-punish-ad-blockers-not-firefox-users/

Edit: This isn’t a Firefox-exclusive issue, it just happened to affect Firefox users the most since it has tracking protection enabled by default. Other browser users also have had that issue too. If user agent switching works, it’s likely due to A/B testing shenanigans.

Ironically there is a filter snippet that ublock origin users can use to bypass the artificial delay:

reading https://danluu.com/slow-device/ and man, reading that exchange between the discourse and google devs makes be pretty mad at the former.

bruh, people with shittier connections tend to also have shitter devices. I know qualcomm sucks, but like don't blame people for buying phones with their chips in them, especially since they're pretty dominant in the android world.

That's just using a flash translation layer bruh

Ok, so akko.wtf's IP does point to Hetzner, but the actual server is hosted at home. Hetzner is currently only used to host the reverse proxy for akko.wtf and frieren.quest, mostly so I don't have to deal with potential dynamic IP shenanigans and provide a bit of privacy.

Well I'll take some time to consider options here.
