More like evening the playing field. If China doesn’t want to let social media businesses operate freely in China, why would the US be required to do the same?

Do I need a new phone for 2FA? (Tad Long)

So recently my work, a mid sized engineering firm, decided to start upgrading their IT security. The rumor is that we have potential DOD work coming our way. Over the past few months there has been multiple company decided changes to our 2 factor authentication mobile app. I willingly installed the app on my phone over a year...

If there is a technical requirement for you to do the job as an employee (not a contractor), the employer is expected to provide the necessary tools for you to accomplish the tasks they require from you.

With that said, which 2FA methods are available? Is it a proprietary app or you can enroll a TOTP (ie: the QR code)? Are they support hardware tokens (WebAuthn, FIDO2, Passkeys? If they do, they could simply provide you something like a Security Key, which is quite affordable and does thenjob quite well

IT guy had mentioned the security key option, but he said they would not work on most of our desktops because they are all custom built PC’s

I’d be surprised if they didn’t work, for FIDO2 all it needs is an OS that can do HID over USB (basically everything) and a browser that can handle it.

The only issue I could see is if they disable the USB port for security reasons.

Jokes on them, I never spent a dollars on GTA:O and would have paid for an actual DLC.

I use it once in a while when I’m taking a walk, it’s made purposely to fill stuff easily on the go.

For more detailed/complex edits, I go with Every Door.

F-Droid always lag behind a bit since it needs to build all the apps they distribute from source in their CI servers.

Using passkeys on Linux & Android

Passkeys seem like a great idea, and we are at a point where, although things are still very much in flux, software passkeys managed by password managers are starting to be usable. I thought I’d share the workflow that’s working for me on Linux with some sites, and ask the community for more tips & tricks....

  • “Passkey” seems to be an umbrella term for WebAuthn or FIDO U2F. It looks like WebAuthn is a part of FIDO2.

In fact, Passkeys are considered passwordless, and rely specifically on discoverable credentials and resident keys to store the identity alongside the certificate for the authentication.

U2F is the previous standard, also known as FIDO. WebAuthn is basically another name for Passkeys, relying on CTAP2 as the protocol to interface between the website and the authentication token.

What’s the point of paying for early access if need to pay again when it’s stable?

Early access users took a gamble of paying a low price for a likely buggy game, that might evolve over time through user’s feedback and that has a possibility of failing and never come out of early access.

Asking for the early access users to buy the game at full price is a slap on the face.

Syncthing-fork has a couple of mobile-specific enhancements, like only sync on a schedule, never on mobile data, etc.

mp3,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

My version of Syncthing-Fork is currently at 1.27.6, same as the official version.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it lags behind for a day or two for the changes to be merged, but most if not all of it is specific to the Android wrapper, not the Syncthing core.

I believe the learning curve to have an XMPP server up and running is lower than a Matrix server, and from what I can see, a Matrix server won’t run as well in a potato.

A strong and unique passphrase is indeed really important here, but you need to keep in mind that once the kdbx file is in the attacker’s hand, that’s the only thing that keep them out.

There’s no 2FA, and no throttling on the bruteforce process. So it’s really important to use a strong password there to avoid it being the weakest link.

Oh no, what will they do with the smaller amount of money to fuel their unsustainable standard of luxury while the poors starve a little less?

I’m surprised it still doesn’t.
