Would Lemmy Benefit from Implementing Polls? (slrpnk.net)

A popular way of dealing with discussions, and familiar to most people, I assume. As far as I see it, adding a poll system to Lemmy is a good way to enhance user engagement. I’m not really aware if this has been a topic before or not, tried looking it up but didn’t see much juice on the topic, so thought I’d spark it up....

I’d like to see that happen, especially if it comes with the following options to restrict the poll:

  • by time
  • by instance
  • by existing users at the time of the poll’s creation
  • single choice, multiple choices, ranked choice

Israel orders Al Jazeera to close its local operation and seizes some of its equipment (apnews.com)

Israel ordered the local offices of Qatar’s Al Jazeera satellite news network to close Sunday, escalating a long-running feud between the broadcaster and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s hard-line government as Doha-mediated cease-fire negotiations with Hamas hang in the balance....

Something like Briar could be used to exchange messages between devices over Bluetooth, but it still end up using a fair amount of battery which is a problem when you don’t have access to a reliable power grid, and it’s Android-only…

Yeah… at least you can share the app installer without Internet, and communications done on the mesh can be transmitted online as long as one single node can get Internet access.

IMO talking about Jedi, Sith and the Force too much dilutes their importance.

They’re indeed central to the story, but they’re also extremely rare, to a point where most people in the Star Wars universe believe the Jedi are a myth which may not even be real. Seeing a Jedi in action would be like seeing the Messiah in the flesh.

Sony will sell the single-player only version at a discounted rate in non-PSN countries… right?

Make destroying evidence a worse offense than the crime (or as a de facto admission of guilt) and sanction them accordingly.

What a terrible mess that would have been solved by blocking the purchase from countries without PSN from the beginning and through better communications…

I can imagine a troll blasting all kind of crap for the lolz while stuck in traffic on the predefined channel if you can’t turn it off.

Might be difficult if they only do it randomly.

This doesn’t apply worldwide, but to put some stuff in perspective privacy-wise: in the UK you need to go through age verification to create an adult PSN account, kinda hard to stay anonymous, and I’m not sure how much data Sony retains.

They can blame Sony for forcing them towards their systems, especially if the person in question didn’t vote for the government who enacted those rules.

Who else than a large corp with sufficient funding can develop and market lab-grown meat anyway? Of course this kind of stuff will come from a large corp at first. Is he willing to launch a state-owned lab to fund it publicly? Yeah, I didn’t think so.

It’s not like people will jump at the opportunity to buy some backyard-shed-grown meat today, as appetizing that might sound.

While using Run (Win+R), you can launch any command with a admin elevation prompt by pressing Ctrl+Shift-Enter to launch the command.

Car hoods are getting higher and higher, which makes hitting a pedestrian much more lethal than before.

The shape of smaller (sane) car is made specifically to be aerodynamic, and to also ensure the impact mostly happens at the legs and raise the pedestrian to minimize damage and hopefully avoid running over them. Those mastodons on the streets are insane.
