I subscribe to a few gaming site feeds and feel like a big, routine proportion of the content is reporting about gamers getting mad about stuff: DLC costs/timetables/content, disruptive rebalancing, promised-launch-thing-that-is-now-DLC, etc.

Reminds me of the Linux sites I managed for years, with similarly fractious communities. I don't think I would have it in me to deal with a sour streak that wide again.

(I asked to be transferred out of the Linux/Open Source sites after someone saw fit to send a death threat over a Microsoft Office run-of-network ad turning up on LinuxToday.

Upside: Being transferred to the enterprise networking beat was so dry, boring, and disconnected from anything I cared about that I taught myself how to code over a year or two, and developed a useful Rails app that gave me confidence to move from editorial to tech.)

@spacewizard Yeah, no, I'm in my own head here. :-) Every time there's iPad news, the Content Industry spins up, but the opinions they offer are way past the skis of what they can usefully opine about.

That article you linked seems like a rare-ish admission that the new Pros are beyond the writer's ken.

Like, hobbyists gonna hobby. Enthusiasts gonna enthuse. But it's the same dynamic as a Linux review site obsessing about the default desktop for a server OS.
