iPad has probably had the most dramatic shift of all of Apple's platforms, since its inception. It began as doing very few things to a very high quality, but now it does almost everything, badly. I hope history finds it to have been more than just an incubator for Apple's Mac silicon during the wayward years
@stroughtonsmith disagree. A) light computing isn’t just about price. B) You can get an iPad for less than half the cost of a Mac.
For casual computer users an iPad does pretty much everything they need to. My 70 yo father would rather spend £1k on an iPad vs any computer for the same money because of its ’lightness’. There are plenty of people who don’t need the complexity of a Mac, including its hardware complexity.
@simonbs creating a dummy account and browsing around for a while (depends how frequently you see the issue) should give you an indication if it’s Safari or potentially some issues with your config. Could be an interplay of extensions, corrupt pref files, something iCloud is doing etc etc
Using a dummy account will be almost the equivalent of a clean install.
Considering splurging on my first espresso machine to get the fully automatic Jura Z10 that most seem to be getting great reviews. Anyone in here who has experience with it? I trust your people’s opinion much more than I trust the rest of the Internet 😃 https://us.jura.com/en/homeproducts/machines/Z10-Aluminium-White-NAA-15361
@simonbs I had a Jura and after about a year the auto tamping mechanism got clogged up. Had to clear it monthly for another year before it gave up. We also had one at work and it was always out of action for cleaning.
I’ve had a Sage (Oracle) since 2018 and it’s been flawless. Separating ground coffee, tamping, and water into separate processes is far simpler.
It turns out if you go to Settings, Face ID, scroll down a ways, and tap through a modal with some scary text, you can make it so your Apple Watch unlock your iPhone when wearing a headset like the Vision Pro.
This is good for now, but IMO this should be more automatic and using the phone though the blurry cameras is still a pain. Less bad now, but still not 100% 😊
@davidpierce Hey, just finished watching the MKBHD to do list video you were on, what was the name of that new to do list app you mentioned right at the end?
Hi friends! It is once again that time: I'm putting together this week's Installer, and I want to know everything you're into right now. What movie / game / app / book / podcast / maple syrup varietal are you loving right now? Tell me everything!
@BasicAppleGuy The 12" PB was my fav laptop, if I cancel out the nostalgia a bit then maybe the M2 MBA is. But I loved plugging the PB into a 23" Cinema Display and feeling like I was a king.
@matt Out of interest how do you feel about these films with Rowlings views on trans rights?
I was a bit too old to read the books, but came to love the films. Had a tradition where every few years we’d watch one each Sunday on the run up to xmas.
Can’t do it anymore because of JK. Though in most cases I’m torn between seperating the art from the artist, not here, because I feel so let down. I do appreciate the cast being pretty public about disagreeing with her though.
@imyke Not saying us @upgrade listeners missed you on your well deserved break, but in your absence someone may have left the adverts in the members feed 😬
@andyn Hey, just discovered your site (specifically the games you completed). Inspired me to do something similar, though don’t have a blog so it’ll just be in my journal.
FYI the iA Write link in your footer leads to a 404 page.
Oh wow, the new lock screen/desktop feature in the latest Sonoma beta is super nice. When you log in it gradually stops wherever it was in the loop. Really, really slick.
