omg I thought I was the only one. Siri why are you like this

Verso,
@Verso@mastodon.social avatar

@christianselig there's a toggle? Mine have always done the opposite of now, no matter what it is. I have an automation that turns on a couple of lights at sunset. If those lights are already on, they get turned off at sunset.

@christianselig Google Assistant is just as bad - it just gets more irritating - I think it might be that in order for to do more things it requires more precise language and that's why simple things that used to work are now being plagued with follow-up questions and confirmations. Just a thought. But like some else said - after all these years how come there have been no actual improvements!? Unless that was never their goal… maybe all they wanted was an always-listening device in your home… 👀

@christianselig
“Siri, is it going to rain tonight?”
“The high today will be 15 degrees”

st3fan,
@st3fan@mastodon.social avatar

@christianselig this randomly started for me last week. “Siri Lights” would simply toggle but now it asks what to actually do. Annoying.

christianselig,
@christianselig@mastodon.social avatar

@st3fan I’ve had it for about a month and a half. Funny how the regression is rolling out slowly haha

@eierund@mastodon.social avatar

@christianselig if Siri doesn’t get fixed with the AI initiative I’ll give up on it for good!

mttsmth,
@mttsmth@mastodon.social avatar

@christianselig Siri WILL NOT do any basic things for me (in the UK) which it could do a few weeks ago

It’s like talking to a Benjamin Button home assistant

@christianselig I feel like we've gone the wrong direction with these voice assistant things. I don't want it to be like talking to a person. I want something more like the star trek computers where you just issue it short commands and then it does it.

"Tea, earl grey, hot"

"Computer, lights."

"Computer, locate Dr. Crusher"

Short and direct commands like we're talking to a computer, which we are. I'm not saying please and thank you to a talking hockey puck

@christianselig@mastodon.social avatar

@wesley Amen

@christianselig

For when you want to ensure lights are in fixed state ‘on’ or ‘off’ from ‘the cloud’ far far away.

Yeah I prefer simple toggle. Hey Siri, I’m here you dingbat. Yes I know I’m five minutes from home, I’m familiar with the territory.

I could see false positives from it merely hearing the word ‘balcony’out of context.

The rabbit hole of all measures being mere approximations.

christianselig,
@christianselig@mastodon.social avatar

@Chancerubbage I mean it's totally fine to have that as an extra command you can use to make sure, but why get rid of the toggle command that has existed for years? We figured this out 40 years ago with The Clapper

Jasontho,
@Jasontho@mastodon.social avatar

@christianselig Oh, good other people are noticing this too! It should know if its on or off!!! Why is it getting more dumb?

christianselig,
@christianselig@mastodon.social avatar

@Jasontho How could Siri possibly comprehend such sophisticated state information as 0 or 1??

Jasontho,
@Jasontho@mastodon.social avatar

@christianselig not only comprehend but apparently completely forget it. So curious to how one day it worked and the next it's gone.
