Morning. Getting my "smart" meter "fixed" this morning, so much fun with laptop batteries and phone tethering for work to come.
Meanwhile, if you're in Englandshire, go vote, you lazy oafs. I want to see unhappy Tories.

@NormanDunbar I've heard of Shy Tories but it must be bad when it extends to the candidates.

Just watched this Chaffinch sideswipe this Blue Tit for no good reason while they both kept away from a Robin.
Its bloody warfare out there this morning.

Glasgow really does have some horrific industrial remains, doesn't it?

Is there any policy difference between Labour and Tory now? Other than Self-enriching Cruelty versus Benign Competent Decline.

@hesgen Which is where they're pitch to the electorate as just the same, but nicer, falls down.
Yes, I don't want the Tories, but I do want to vote FOR something and Labour have hee haw on offer that I can see.

munchkinstein,
@munchkinstein@mastodon.scot avatar

@alexpalacefan Oh, immeasurably better than the Tories.
Being in Scotland it is not a straight either/or though which is why I despair of their pitch which seems to be based on that only.

munchkinstein,
@munchkinstein@mastodon.scot avatar

@simon_brooke @alexpalacefan Entirely agree.
It's a shit system and the way to game it encourages vacuous weasels.

More at the Fruitmarket. Starting with Gangar, what happens if a Seventies Jazz saxophonist, a trad fiddler and three guys from an Eighties hair metal band are Norwegian.
Bonkers fun.

A bit of almost Christmas snow for Glasgow this morning. Big soft flakes and not expected to last but helping keep the seasonal levels middling.

Recommendations please, for the best ginger biscuits.

Assume I am aware of McVities ginger nuts, and main supermarket own brands.

This is an important question.

Just reached the 3rd Doctor in my Doctor Who rewatch and MY GOD does it reinforce my love for Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart.

The perfect military officer. Strong sense of duty. Utterly fearless. Accepts that science matters, even if he doesn't understand it and the guy pushing it is a bit of a dick.

munchkinstein,
@munchkinstein@mastodon.scot avatar

@garius He is brilliant to start but sadly becomes a bit plot dim.
But Courtney always does it so well.

munchkinstein,
@munchkinstein@mastodon.scot avatar

@garius True. He was a brilliant character foisted on a team who wanted to do space stories and acted wonderfully. One of my favourites who could have been better.

There are points where Duolingo's lack of explanations really lets it down and this morning's random choice of spelling of the Gaelic for America is a perfect example.
No idea why I pick one over the other, especially as the first option the tool suggests is also, apparently, wrong..

@thisismyglasgow Famously (in my family) my grandfather fell in it as a kid and the place has been called Drouken Glen ever since.

Late, because I'm lazy, but, with a year to go, I thought I'd start a series of Glasgow Worldcon related "facts" to help those coming from afar to prepare.
So, first off, Glasgow in 2024 will be the third Glasgow Worldcon. Edinburgh has never had any and this is yet more proof that Glasgow is better.
More as I think of them.

munchkinstein,
@munchkinstein@mastodon.scot avatar

Scotland is well known for its ancient carved standing stones but it should be noted that many important documents are still written in stone to this day and attendees at Worldcon next year should reinforce their pockets accordingly.
Here, for instance, is a stone erected by my cousin, Kenneth, in Barrhead that sets out how many pints of milk he'd like delivered each morning.
