ECLIPSE: 3:17:00 PM ☉︎ in 19° Aries : ☽︎ in 19° Aries. Made candles to commemorate the eclipse, played mantras to Ganesha, Lakshmi, and Shiva during peak darkness. Still amazing that a celestial event can bring everyone together to do one thing and witness it. Of course we will all go back to bickering, arguing and hating each other tomorrow, but for everyone in or near to the path of totality, they're all united as one to watch the heavenly ballet. I wonder though, about our neighbors. North America will not see another solar eclipse until 2044, and these barbie and ken bone-white bleached out beige bastards just went about their days like they were on autopilot. We were sitting on our deck with our goofy sunglasses and goofy drinks having a goofy time, but everyone else in the neighborhood either shut themselves up inside or did their normal daily routine. Leaf blowers. Arguments with the spouses. Soccer practice. Lacrosse practice. Softball practice. I have more kinship with the people who took time off work, paid extortionate prices and travelled to cities in the path of totality than the people who live next door. For pete's sake, look up from your grind and breathe in the glories of the universe!

I think the saddest part of listening to Terence McKenna today isn't just that the whole premise that "if everyone did enough drugs we'd evolve human consciousness" isn't true, but it's the specific point that when the "three enemies of the people" (hegemony, monogamy and monotony) are directly confronted and challenged through the use of psychedelics, it is enough to crumble the foundations of the dominator culture. The "dominator culture" isn't just threatened by the violation of those norms-- they engage in the practice of violating those norms at far greater regularity than one might think-- it's that they monetize those things and sell them! No, what the dominator culture can't stand isn't the fact that people do drugs and have orgies in the woods, but the fact that people do it without any financial transaction taking place. THAT is the mortal threat to the dominator culture that McKenna aaaaaallllllmmmmmoooooossssstttttt grasped.

I don't know what McKenna would think of hypercapitalist techbros taking all-inclusive vacations to the Amazon Rainforest in their private luxury jets and yachts specifically to purchase the psychedelic experience, and then market the consumption of microdoses of assorted psychedelics as a way to increase productivity for the general populace at their jobs generating capital for those same tech bros, but I'd like to think that he'd have the wherewithal to engage in some self reflection.

Turns out drugs don't magically grant you a spiritual empathetic awakening, an anticapitalist revelation, a personality, a religion, or ethical standards unless those things already exist within you already.

I can't take your pagan conference seriously when you've still got presenters and gatherings associated with and inspired by "mists of avalon", given the awful, terrible, horrible things we now know about marion zimmer bradley and her husband. I see no difference between that sort of material and anything related to harry potter being at pagan conferences. Both are fabrications, both are written by horrifically vile people, both act as flypaper for the worst possible people on the planet, and neither of them have contributed anything of any worth to a. the destigmatization of people who are identified as 'pagan' and b. the promotion of pagan spiritualities as legitimate belief systems that aren't arbitrary cults of personality intended to sell books to a captive audience.

Do you want to contribute scholarly work to the discovery of heretofore unrecorded and "lost" pre-christian spiritualities? Do that! Do you want to cast a critical eye to commonly accepted accounts of historical figures? Do that! Do you want to create a modern polytheistic nature-based spirituality that's diametrically opposed to contemporary patriarchies? Do that!

But don't take a mishmash of a sex pest's fictional work, big-tent 'generic celtic' deities, a feeble attempt at running an exclusive travel agency, and roll it up in a blatant attempt to create what amounts to an inverted gender version of the equally odious and insipid 'mythopetic men's movement' that went on to birth a thousand incels.

My own ink making quest has come to naught; the birds have stripped bare all of the berries from the pokeweed plants, so no exquisite violet ink that time slowly turns deep chocolate brown.

If I can get to them before the county chops them down, there are some vast swaths of pokeweed along the bike trail that I plan on harvesting for pokeberry ink. Beautifully purple when written fresh, as it ages it turns into a coffee-brown.

There's a statement about the transitory and ephemeral nature of language and the written word if I've ever seen one.
