neidu2,

As much as I agree with your overall arguement, I just want to point out that the main reason why russia now has fewer troops along the finnish and norwegian border is because they needed to reinforce the donbass leather factory. If they had the resources, the manpower on the border would probably remain the same.

neidu2,

I have neither insight nor retorts to offer, I just wanted to congratulate you on 25 years. Hell, even 5 years with someone who’d dig in with you is worthy of praise in this world. I’m glad you found your foxhole buddy, and I wish you all the best.

When I still did karate we had these boards that were meant for kicking so they’d split. A training buddy and I were curious if they could be punched apart. I learned two things that day:

  • Yes
  • Knuckles don’t like that

While it wasn’t very painful at first beyond what I expected, it took me a few days to realize that the pain didn’t really go away. Then I happened to bump my fist/knuckles into this aluminium plate at work by accident, and it felt like my knuckles were hit with a hammer. And I didn’t even bump into it hard. This time the pain slowly went away over time until it one day was conpletely gone.

But to this day, 10 years later, if i accidentally bang my knuckles against something hard I notice very quickly that something isn’t quite how it should be.

neidu2,

No, it’s just an adapter to get the rj11 to connect to the wall socket that most houses built before 1990 had for their phones here.

neidu2,

I for one prefer brown noise. Could be a result of me working on a ship for a long while. I always found the deep engine hum with the sea against my porthole to be very soothing. Plus, the rocking motion didn’t exactly hurt either.

I had a cellphone around 2004 or so, where sometimes the display would suddenly become mirrored. After a while it would also turn upside down. On the really bad days it would be both. Everything else worked fine, so I kept using it, but writing and reading SMS was a pain.

neidu2,

Makes me want to try a fusion dish with IASIP and make Hot Rumham Water

neidu2,

Mushroom soup - my entire existence is based on being kept in the dark and fed shit.

neidu2,

Waiting at the first airport right now. There’s no beer here though, as it’s a tiny local airport with only a vending machine. But in about two hours I’ll be landing at a larger regional one. As I’m a very frequent flier this means lounge access and free beer during my three hour wait.

neidu2,

Beer in an airport lounge, and no.
Tomorrow it will be beer in a hotel lobby, which is what I’m looking forward to.

…after which it will be a US exclave in need of aerial supply.

neidu2,

And you can hear russia from the capitol

We’ll have to organize a post-ww2 berlin style airlift to support and supply Austin, though. A coworker of mine from there suggested at least one daily C130 fully loaded with kombucha.

Texas. Good food, though. But it was completely mental.

To me it was when the episode ended with Picard having been assimilated by the borg. When I was watching it it was way too late, and I had a flight that I needed to catch in the morning. I pulled an all nighter because I needed to see what happened next, despite knowing that the next 24 hours would be spent in transit.

To this day, Picard turning towards the camera all borg’ed up right before the end credits is the biggest cliffhanger I’ve ever seen.

Same story here. Came from Jerboa, swapped after 0.19 broke it. It took some time getting used to, but Voyager works well for me now.

neidu2,

My backpack has been packed:

  • Two laptops (one for work, one for not) + accessories
  • A change of clothes
  • A DE9-RJ45 console cable
  • Power bank
  • A bunch of access keycards

The composite-toe airport-friendly safety shoes are by the door waitingforme. I’m abnormally early in getting ready this time, because my backpack was mostly packed from my previous work trip. So now I’m sitting in my bed for the next hour, before it’s time to hop in ky car and drive to the airport.

For the next couple of days I’ll be on a short work trip, the kind I usually do once or twice a month, and thebkids and my GF know that I’ll be back on Wednesday.

I’ll be in transit most of the day, but there’s a rental car and a hotel waiting for me on the other side. Tomorrow will mostly be spent working inside shipping containers, with my laptop plugged into various network hardware and servers that will soon be lifted onboard a ship.

neidu2,

Same for Norway. Going on walks seems more popular on sundays.

neidu2,

AskLemmy posts that don’t ask a question and/or are offtopic

neidu2,

Assuming that /home resides on the same filesystem, and is not a separate mountpoint, yes.

neidu2, (edited )

It will not. Xfsdump only dumps the xfs partition, and any mountpoints are treated as empty folders (which they kind of are).
