Esoteric themes in music and literature:
French composer Félicia Atkinson blends experimental music with literary and artistic influences. Influenced by experimental poetry and the works of Georgia O'Keeffe, her compositions integrate human voices, landscapes, and memories, forming a unique fusion of sound and literature.

Haven’t been here for a while, but hope to be here more frequently. A good friend has offered to help me with some aspects of the mechanics of the place that puzzled me earlier.

nothingistrue,

@GreatDismal great to hear, welcome back 🙌

I'm so excited to share that my book, HOW INFRASTRUCTURE WORKS: INSIDE THE SYSTEMS THAT SHAPE THE WORLD, will be out on October 17th of this year, on Riverhead Books. It's about the globe-spanning systems we've built to meet our needs: what systems like electricity, water, transportations and telecommunications have in common, how they work, and what needs to change to make them resilient, functional and equitable.

You can preorder it now at:

nothingistrue,

@debcha oh that looks amazing, looking forward to it!

Is James Patrick Kelly on Mast?

Is Justina Robson?

Is Greg Egan?

Or Megan E O'Keefe?

I feel immensely privileged to have found John Shirley on here, who I've read and idolised for decades. It's made me wonder - who else is on here?

nothingistrue,

@Jyoti @GreatDismal is here of course, though not extremely active.

Anyone on here ever see any performances? I became fascinated with them in the 1980s & wished I could have seen them, but they were not close by, so alas. I discovered them via a very cool video store called Great Society Video that catered to all things weird, strange, transgressive, & avant garde. At the time was putting out videos of their shows. I thought they looked awesome. I was also young. 😂

nothingistrue,

@tuckerteague somehow missed ever seeing them, even though they were part of the cultural influences that inspired my moving to SF in the mid-90s. I think I found them via V.Vale’s Re/Search mags in the late 80s or so whilst immersing myself in punk record shops back in Tucson AZ as a youngster.
