I'm working on an implementation to allow Point of View character to be automatically added to for instance Chapter titles.

Since a character tag does not necessarily have a title-friendly name or format, I need to add a way to define a "Display name" for a tag.

I would like some feedback on how to best implement it, either here or in the feature thread on GitHub (which has a lot more information).

novelWriter 2.1 is finally out!

The main change in this release is a brand new Manuscript Build tool for building a manuscript document of your project. In the new tool, you can define multiple different builds, and have more control over what text is included.

There is a number of new features that have been requested and that will be added to this tool in later releases.

A new pre-release of novelWriter 2.1 is out: Release Candidate 1.

The new Build Settings tool has received some improvements based on feedback. You can now select spell check dictionary from the Tools menu, and some smaller requested improvements have been added.

Mostly, the difference between this and the Beta 1 release a month ago is a lot of restructuring of the core code.

If this release candidate works well, the full release will be just around the corner!

If any of you are testing out the new manuscript build tool in the novelWriter 2.1 beta, there is a great feedback discussion thread going on GitHub right now.

I would very much like to hear from you. The new build tool is still a work in progress, so feedback and ideas are greatly appreciated.

2.1 is the 2nd part of the 2.0 major release, which was split due to the amount of work needed to complete the changes.

The main feature of this pre-release is the new Manuscript Build Tool with a number of requested features. it will be extended in the coming releases. See the Changelog for details.

I've been working on the new Manuscript Build Tool for novelWriter for months now, and I finally finished the first iteration of it. A beta release of 2.1 will be out in not too long, so you can test it.

In the meantime, here's a video showing some of the features. 😊

(I don't demonstrate it here, but you can define as many build definitions as you want in the new tool.)

novelWriter 2.0 Release Candidate 2 is now out. It's a pre-release, so please be careful about using it for you active writing projects. You should only use it on a copy of the project.

This release will update the file format of your project file, so older versions will not be able to read the project afterwards.

There are a number of improvements from 2.0 RC1 based on feedback. Large parts of the core code has also been refactored to support future, planned features.
