Hi all, I run both a Mastodon and a Lemmy instance, I tried sending a message from my Mastadon user to my Lemmy user, and while mastodon says it was sent I do not see it under the Messages icon....
Well, whew again! The influx of new users into Sopuli surprised not only me, but also Hetzner's VPS. The disk space ran out fast, and Sopuli was down today for many hours because of this. I was busy with work, which didn't help with the issue....
Posts and comments are all text, so they take barely any space at all. Posts from remote instances are also stored in the local database. However images are a much bigger factor, and Docker also takes a lot of space for some reason.
I guess this also counts steppe lands in Mongolia where shepards pass through with their herds once a year. The numbers likely look different if you look at industrialized countries where animals live in stables.
I can see that I can follow Lemmy communities from Mastodon (just tried it out with a handful of communities), but I don't see a way to have it work the other way....
Lemmy can only follow communities, not users. Otherwise it would require a whole new UI and other major changes. Doesnt make much sense when you can create a second account on Mastodon or one of many other platforms which already implement user following much better.
You cant follow hashtags, only follow the users who post them and then filter according to the hashtag on each post. That doesnt make sense for Lemmy (it only follows group actors, which are similar to user accounts).
This is true, but there are two exceptions: admins have a purge action which permanently deletes content. And like others already said, when you delete your account everything that you posted is permanently deleted.
If you want to follow a community from another instance, just paste the URL into the search bar. Also works for specific posts or comments that you want to reply to.
Just joined, and well, I'm thinking ill stay. Ive been looking for a good reddit alternative for a while now. devs, you've done quite some good work here.
Its really better to link to joinlemmy so that people get distributed across different instances. We dont want everyone to be on the same instance, that would cause many problems.
You can ask them to check the browser console for errors. Or sign up somewhere else. Anyway we are getting at least a dozen signups per hour so it's working for many.
We are happy to see that many of you are exploring Lemmy after Reddit announced changes to its API policy. I maintain this project alongside @dessalines....
Community title?
Just a recommendation to the mod(s) here, you may want to set the display name for the community to simply "Sysadmin"....
