I’m a big fan of Shokz. I wear them running, in the gym, and even for gaming when I don’t want to blast the speakers.

No, I’m pretty sure they were around. They just didn’t have the platform they do today.

I use Jefit to track my gym workouts. The app is pretty good, and free. The website is a little clunky but it does have all the features of the app. For macro tracking I use Cronometer, I cook a lot of my own mealprep meals and it’s easy to add a custom recipe and just set how many servings it makes and let it figure out the nutrition data.

You can use resistance bands or chains to add even more weight to your dumbbells!

On one hand, I would love to have a job where I’m more active. But on the other hand, I don’t want a manual labor job that’s going to break my body or impact my training. It would be nice to have the best of both worlds.

Look into midfoot or even forefoot striking (there are lots of videos that go into great detail). If you strike with the heel (which you do if you extend your feet out in front of you) you’re almost certainly going to have knee issues. Plant your feet under you and focus on extending your legs behind you instead.

You can look into some performance goals. Do you want to train for a marathon or Ironman? Do you want to compete in powerlifting? Or maybe take up a team sport? These can all give you goals and targets to keep you moving.

What keeps you going to the gym?

I've been weightlifting at the gym with my brother at least 2-3 days a week for the last 2 months. I recently noticed a week or so ago, after my workouts, the soreness has decreased in the days following, tremendously. No longer am I walking around with locked knees because my legs are going to give out, or with T-rex arms...

Same. The later it gets, the less likely I am to go so I just get up and go first thing. It's amazing how fast you can break the gym habit if its not part of your daily routine.

Is it just based on how far you go? If so, your best option is probably a combination of running/walking. Take plenty of walk breaks to let your HR come down, but you'll keep making progress. You're probably not going to run a Half-Marathon distance in 2 hours with this strategy though.

I remember after my first big fitness push when i started lifting and put on some muscle mass, going to lunch with some coworkers (normal dadbod guys) and I got this really large helping of curly fries from the girl at the counter. I'm gay so I didn't think anything of it but a coworker commented "she must really like you." That's when I realized that people really do treat you differently when you're fit vs fat, even if they won't admit it. Most people probably aren't even aware that they do it, but they do.

How do I hide posts/submissions on Kbin?

odin,
@odin@lemmy.world avatar

Well, you posted this in the lemmy.world community, and since lemmy.world runs lemmy and not kbin, you might get better responses if you ask somewhere else. But the lemmy folks are awesome so hopefully someone can help you out.

Tbh I like to buy unflavored protein powder. I put it in smoothies or overnight oats or things with other ingredients. I think the flavored ones have a chemical taste that I've never liked.

I can't wait to see all the fixes in 0.18 implemented, it's going to be huge. 1.0, here we come!

More and more I find myself using Google docs and sheets. It's nice that I can update things from my phone and easily share with people because everyone has a Google account.

Honestly I think this is an interesting real-world experiment in the entire federation paradigm. It's going to happen again and again, there's no escaping it. How does the ecosystem work when two large instances can't communicate directly? We're going to find out.

Have they fixed the kbin/cloudflare federation issue?

This article is amazing. Factually correct, and entertaining to read. And who says traditional media is dead?

Impressive! At 210 pounds I go through shoes pretty fast, but my current Asics Novablast just hit 300 miles and they're still going strong, hopefully they hold up like these Ghosts.

How can I increase my running speed?

I started running about a year ago and I really enjoy it. Most of the time I run on treadmills before my workout, but when I can I love to run at parks. My roommate and I had a race my last semester and he zoomed away as soon as I reached my limit. Would appreciate any recommendations....

If you're training for a distance race (5k or more) and not a sprint, then the best thing is to run a lot of kilometers. And the best way to do that without injury is to run slow. So it may sound strange but you learn to race fast by running slow, but running a lot.

This is very sad news, especially that part at the end that says that black women are three times more likely than white women to suffer a pregnancy-related death.
