Makes a lot of sense. Time to start easing gas appliances out.

You can’t make a net-zero Australia on a gas cooktop - Tristan Edis https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/dec/19/you-cant-make-a-net-zero-australia-on-a-gas-cooktop

oldlillipilli,

@timrichards the elimination of appliances has to be done, but it will be complicated for people living in strata. For the last 25 years or so, the gas industry has been giving huge discounts to developers installing gas in apartment complexes. As a result most modern Australian apartments are embedded into gas. This is going to take both policy & financial support by state governments

oldlillipilli,

@timrichards Other than the (considerable) technical issues, one problem with de-gassing strata developments is that many of the owners are investors who are most reluctant to spend any money unless forced to. The (4 story) complex where I am has sunny roofs ideal for solar panels, but that has the complication of owners needing to vote for one electricity supplier. We’re going to need some serious enforceable action from government to kill the gas

This is appalling. How earth do you fight a terrorist organisation via heavy bombardment anyway? All you do is create more terrorists from the survivors.

Israel says it will hit crowded south Gaza as hard as it hit north

oldlillipilli,

@timrichards that’s assuming there are survivors

Hardly a surprise

In today’s SMHAge the English-born (and still affiliated) Tony Abbott shows that he doesn’t understand that taking over someone else’s home and all their assets is a bit more than bad manners.

“The “no” case misrepresents the scope and powers of the Voice, inaccurately explaining the constitutional limits on these while ignoring the practical and political limits.”

Hardly a surprise, especially as that nasty little racist, John Howard, is now telling his troops to “Maintain the rage” against giving Australia’s First Nations People a fair go
