Sent some of Dad’s ashes (about a teaspoon) to the sea at the local beach on his deathiversary, like I promised myself I would. Will bury some more in the garden later.
Now treating myself to a breakfast at yet another local cafe.
Buried some of Mum’s ashes in the back garden of the new place, at about the time she died two years ago.
A magpie started singing as I covered them up. She would have liked that, I think.
Feels like I’ve been going flat out even after settlement day, so this is the first chance I’ve had the space and energy to have a little celebration.
Couple of dishes from the little Chinese cafe which is a bit of a local institution, the bottle of bubbly the estate agent gave me when we sold the house, and sitting down to finally watch Bridgerton. Ahhh.
Up early after Zooks woke me up by sitting on my shoulder, so I decided I’d tackle some more clearing and sorting.
Last day of work before the move. Kinda wish I’d taken this week off as well, but I suspect I would have faffed around more if I had. Plus I wouldn’t have scored free cat food from one of my clients after her cat sadly died.
No work for me today - colon went boom about an hour before I was due to start and my clients were a 97 yo and another household where both the client and the carer have autoimmune issues, so I phoned in and said ‘it could be moving stress or it could be something, what do?’ I was told very firmly regardless to Stay Home.
Back to the packing!
In the continuing saga of trying to get the business verifed on google, we finally got the video call working, but the banner signage I had was deemed inadequate and ‘you need a permanent sign’.
I explained we never had one for privacy reasons (it was Mum’s house after all) and I’d be moving mid this month anyway.
So more or less back to square one. At least I got some clearing and sorting done.
You’re not going to believe this - after one person at the auction place called on Friday to say that the furniture I want to sell can’t be picked up, someone else called to talk about pickup.
We agreed it would be easier for me to bring the stuff up anyway but they now don’t have a slot for me to drop it off until 2:45.
Anyway the neighbour came around to help me load the car so that’s all done, and he helped me disassemble Mum’s old bed in the bargain and waved off any suggestion of payment. What a guy.
So I got a phonecall at 11:20 from the original guy at the auction place wanting to know if I was still bringing the furniture 🤦🏻♀️.
Thank God the car was loaded so I just had to drive there. Auction is this afternoon so 🤞🏻.
In other news, went back in my room and was hit with a blast of Eau de dead rat - checked and realised I’d managed to sprinkle bicarb soda everywhere except where it’d carked it. Google suggested bleach and I had some lemon White King on hand so I poured a good glug on it, opened the window and closed the door. Went in for something and all I could smell was bleach, so here’s hoping that’s sorted it. 😖
😖 Zooks decided because I woke up early yesterday that 3:30 is now wake up time and head-butted me awake.
Admittedly she woke me out of one of those annoying dreams, but still.
Just stopped shaking… I had to deal with one just before Christmas, though, so maybe that took the edge off?
What worries me is when it got in and how long it’d been there - as I said, I’m pretty sure it wasn’t there yesterday and I only just started smelling That Smell, on the other hand it was stuck to the carpet and matted underneath, so… uggh.
Problem is, the foundations have sagged so there’s a lot of places it could have got in (part of the reason I’ve sold the house). I just hope that’s the last one I have to deal with before settlement day. >.<
JESUS FUCKING CHRIST I STARTED SMELLING THAT SMELL AND CHECKED AND THERE WAS A DEAD RAT UNDER MY BED UGGGHHH
God knows when it got there but a) I only just started smelling That Smell an hour back (and I crashed for a couple of hours this afternoon) and b) I’m pretty sure it wasn’t there yesterday because I hauled the old suitcase out from under the other side of the bed to take to the op shop and I didn’t spot anything.
But ugggghhhhhh.
