I definitely need to do a(n increasingly rare) blog post about #emfcamp #emf2024 but it will have to wait a few days while I get a few other things done. tl;dr I’m back to the real world after a really, really great weekend.

Is there a vendor where I can get customized key caps where I can decide which text goes on the single keys?

While JWST was originally designed to see some of the first galaxies to form after the Big Bang, astronomers also use it to observe objects in our cosmic backyard.

Learn how JWST is exploring our solar system to answer questions like:
• How was the solar system formed?
• Where did the chemicals necessary for life on Earth come from?
• What are the icy small bodies in the outer solar system made of?
• How are planets around other stars like planets in our solar system?

@kellylepo did (has?) it seen some of the first galaxies as yet?

oh, this is hilarious. the tory #brexit hardliners have spat out their horlicks when gibraltar, spain, and the uk agree to put the uk border in the airport and open the border into spain. the gammon index has turned 3 shades redder. https://archive.ph/YJ5Jp

“Have ye come far?”
“Only from America.”

, 21 May 1932, Amelia Earhart became the first woman - and only the second person - to fly solo and without stops across the Atlantic.

She lands unexpectedly in Ireland. There’s some wonderful images of her here: https://joecampbellart.com/2015/03/12/amelia-earhart-in-ireland-solo-atlantic-crossing-may-21st-1932/

Watch newsreel of her taking off here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-itPeJOyzI

@CarveHerName @histodons @7ikozu the singular courage to do this. 1932. makes my head spin. crash, or just have a very simple engine fault; you're dead. if i was amelia, i'd look pretty pleased with my accomplishment as well!

Tell me the story of the last time you committed an act of kindness in 500 characters or less.

There’s nothing wrong with bragging about creating kindness. There’s nothing honorable about not sharing the joy of creating kindness.

We need to uplift and encourage people who create kindness in their daily lives.

So tell us your story. It doesn’t have to be something big. It can be something as simple as helping someone carry a bag of groceries.

How did you create kindness this week?

@Mrfunkedude every now and then some oldies turn up to the hotel over the road, can't get their bags in, and the hotel doesn't notice. Dash downstairs, and after a moment of an unshaven and shoeless Aussie later... lift their bags into the hotel doorway. The look on their faces sometimes... awwww....

In other news, Priority Pass is essentially worthless to me at this point, since everyone apparently has lounge access on offer via bank accounts as a free add on to other memberships, so there’s never any room. First world problems, but meh.

pavsmith,

@andypiper mrs. smith and i have lifetime access to One World first lounges... does that help?

pavsmith,

@andypiper indeed the same on Celebrity cruises. hard to cope...

it's an odd thing. give kids sparkling water and see what happens. my completely uninformed opinion, based upon being a fizzy water addict, is that kids will drink it because it is "interesting" in the mouth. also carbonators are cheap!

I'm prototyping a fediverse sharing button. Anyone interested in giving it a try?

Feature highlights:

  • shows a logo of supported fediverse software
  • lets you share selected text
  • remembers the last fediverse domain used

Demo: https://fediverse-share-button.stefanbohacek.dev/
