[META] Can this community add info on how one should vote?

Is one supposed to upvote posts that they dislike (as if it were “opposite day”), to show it’s unpopular? Or is the goal to get as many downvotes as possible to demonstrate the unpopularity? It would be nice if the community info included expectations for voting on unpopular opinions.

person,

I doubt most people would read it anyway. I only ever read community rules when I make a post. Regardless, it would be nice to have (I guess… since I’ve never posted here and so never read it)

person,

If you’re using Jerboa, possibly other apps idk, you can only click on links successfully if they are from the same instance as your own account. There is no way to send links to posts/comments instance-agnostically. You can open the link in a browser and it should take you to the post, where you can figure out what you commented.

person,

Idk I’ve never tried or had the urge to try one. Possible, though.

Shitpost trends get old fast and the joke isn't funny anymore as people try to hop on the band wagon for easy upvotes

The most recent being the jeans trend. It was funny, I get why everyone enjoys a good shitpost. Some of the shitpost are top quality and fun for all to enjoy. But after a couple of days the shitposts just turn to shit posts and its just upvote farming low quality content and kills the joke.

person, (edited )

Everyone gets tired of it at a different time. Someone found out about it just now and they are enjoying it just as much as you did the first time.

(this is the second post I see about jeans, I assume I am too “blocking c/*memes” to understand)

person,

Cringe because furry. Based because you know what you want.

person,

I pick something that describes me but isn’t too specific

person,

oh shit! Is this where I can sit down to watch the debate about whether that means the century or the decade?

person,

Not trying to gotcha you or nothing, but it’s funny, that image being hosted on amazon aws.

person,

if this isn’t a gif of Seymour saying “yes” Im gonna be mad

person,

Seeeeeymooouuuuuuur!

person,

Oh my! I thought it was made from some kind of tree sap! Apparently those do exist, but all of the ones you find in stores are platic based!

If you're making software for actual end-users, you HAVE to give it a goddamn GUI, or else you suck, your software sucks, and nobody is going to use your damn software.

You see this shit SO much more often than you would think. And the infuriating thing is, it seems to be most common among programs that are INCREDIBLY complex and sophisticated....

person,

They always fall back on the position of “well, I developed this shit for free, for your ungrateful ass. So you can build your own fucking GUI.”

But the thing about that is…no. And fuck you.

Okay, but consider this: yes.

person,

lemmy.ml (your instance) removes swears and slurs and puts fuck i mean removed in their place

person,

(really hoping it also filters fuck, doubt and regret has already set in)

person,

It saves every post and comment on its own server, and filters it there. If you’re viewing text through lemmy.ml it will not have the N word in it. Apparently fuck is not strong enough, hence my doubt in my immediate reply to my own comment.

edit: I assume if a user on lemmy.ml comments a slur on a lemmy.world instance it will also federate only the censored version, but I’m not sure about that.

person,

lemmy.ml is run by the devs, one of whom is dessalines. He talks about it in general for example in this issue, and again in general in Lemmy’s ideal Code of Conduct here (I say ideal because it’s what they want, but instances are free to do whatever they want to, at risk of defederation)

I’m sure there are lots of other places they talk about this, but they seem to see it as an integral part of Lemmy, so perhaps there is no specific announcement post. You can join a different instance and you will see a lot less of removed.

person,

Poor lizardrat got a BSOD. Must be using systemd.

person,

You can get informed at gnu.org/freemeals

Excerpt:

When we use the term free in the context of meals it is not about price. We do not care about the price. It is free as in “Libre”, meaning you have the freedom to eat it or give it to someone else who will also have the same freedom to do with it as per wants.

person,

Thank you for making these! I love each one you release here!

person,

Replacing it is no issue but where do you find a crimp tool…
